Andres wins the prize for the first flies back to the meister. i picked them up from him at the International Fly Tying Symposium last weekend. he ties amazingly life-like flies, so even if they are bright pink, doesn’t this one look like it would crawl away if we let it? Thanks, Andres!
Hmm…Photobucket is so busy popping up advertisements in the page that it cannot display the photos any larger. I’ll work on this. meanwhile, enjoy the little ones!
Holy cow! Guess I need to get on the ball… --quivira kid
ah, shoot, no. there’s 8 more weeks until the deadline. Andres didn’t want to trust the mails, and he had the chance to hand-deliver them, so his were in early. and there’s always folks who don’t like to wait. so you’re good!
i’m having a ball rounding up enough materials in my chosen color (what was i thinking?) but it’s going to take a while…
My wets are turning out more consistant than I expected. Should have em done by the end of the week! I’m looking forward to seeing what you all have come up with.
Mine are all done and will go out as soon as the streets don’t resemble skating rinks any more!
I did a pattern that challenged my tying abilities, so I hope you all enjoy it. This was a learning experience on how to tie winged wets, and I loved every minute. I was pleased with how they turned out.
gee, guys, that’s great. i’ll set up the camera, now that the flu bug is on the run and i can do stuff around the house again. it’s been a fight!
run, do not walk, to your nearest medical practitioner (after they clear those roads!) and get vaccinated against the H1N1. i hear pretty much everywhere they have plenty of the vaccine. i’ve had flu, but that new one is something else again entirely.
my granny told me that after the flu you’re going to spend at least twice the time recuperating as you were actually sick. my granny was right. go get vacciated, everyone–swine flu is not your average flu!
anyhow, here are the pictures of Normand’s and IBRB’s flies that i promised a couple of weeks ago. the toe-tags on these are something else! i just snapped pix of the whole thing rather than mess up the presentation. Andres’ beetle is here again because the link in the other post got messed up.
Did a set of chartreuse shrimp today and need to toetag and mail out… Should happen within a day or so.
As a comment on the project, which I did like very much, I think the strict color thing was too much and may have defeated the whole purpose of tying. In my case a simple change to a red eye would have made a positive difference to the fish catching… At least I like to think eyes make a difference.
The chartreuse bead eyes I used do not show up at all against the monchrome shrimp. I use the same pattern in different colors, including chartresuse, but always used mixed colors and adjusted them to show off the parts as much as possible. But I suppose the effectiveness of plain black proves I am all wet…
I will take a photo before mailing and let you know when to expect them…
thanks!

Zac, your sweet #10 wet flies are here. WOW! folks, if you wondered why you joined a COLOR swap, your answer is arriving daily! this is a whole lotta fun. :D
of 12 tyers signed up, flies have arrived from 4, one set is in transit, and mine are half done. pink is an awsome color for a Carrie Stevens streamer–these things look like a marriage between a circus acrobat and a Floradora Girl.
deadline for receipt of flies is Jan 31. this swap has a long time frame because the holidays are crazy around here, and some folks have had to really hunt for materials.
Monday, Feb 1, the flies will be packed and stamped. Tuesday, Feb 2 they are out of here early. if your flies don’t make it to me in time, i’ll return them to you if/when they arrive, and the extras i received to their senders. that little green delivery confirmation from the PO is a great idea for knowing where your package is, if you don’t mind spending an extra 65 cents.
PS: the swapper who posted about sorting the flies into a Plano box as they arrive sure has made swaps easier!
