can multiple shades of the color we chose be used ie: light and dark gray??
yes, you may use different shades. it’s nearly impossible to find colors that match exactly, even if you dye them yourself. if you expand the picture of Bass_Bug’s fly, you’ll see that the tail has two colors of pink feather.

I will take the last spot with chartreuse, if there is still room.
art
chartreuse it is, art. and that fills the roster. gee, that was quick! thanks for joining in, everyone. ![]()
12 flies to me on or before Jan 31. our international member is hand-delivering his, so no one has any excuses! you will get one of your own back–it’s just a whole lot easier to sort them that way.
if you can, please post your pattern/size info when you know it so we can be sure to use the right size box.
now, lessee…which color hasn’t been picked?![]()
i’ll be tying a “little gray may”
Casey,
How did I miss this one. If anyone backs out please sign me up.
except in all orange:

but I checked last night - Don’t have everythign I need for the crawdad (in the right colors)
I’ll be making a size 16 “Fire” Ant Dry Fly
Brannon
I will be tying either a #10 winged wet or a #12 or #14 purple and partridge. It depends on if I can get good enough with slip wings to make them worth sharing! G
Zac
Size #4 “Yellow Ba$tard” Streamer!
Heck it might even catch some fish!!!![]()
size 4 Carrie Stephens style streamer–that’s a whole lotta PINK!!
Thanks to a VERY KIND member of FAOL. I now have the correct materials in route—So its back to the Crawdad!
This is a very effective pattern for bass. Here is a shot from a Friend (in olive).

This pattern will be equally effective in orange - especially in spring / early summer when molting crawfish are often an orange color.
Brannon
Size 13, unidentified pink beetle.

Cardinal size 8 Ref. Dictionary of Trout Flies by John Roberts
so someone says you can dye feathers with a popular food product enjoyed by children, and i’m in the supermarket and i remember this so i pop a box of Jello into the basket and off i go.
get home, do dinner, clean up dinner, mix up Jello, add test feather. nothing. nada. the pink just washes off.
daughter wanders in and sticks nose into small bowl of pink stuff. “I’m dying feathers with Jello,” i say, “It’s not working very well.”
“Oh, the punks all use Kool-Aid,” she says.
oh, for heaven’s sake…jello, kool aid, whatever…![]()
(she’s right–kool aid works better.)
#16 midge pupa
Here’s my first “prototype” of my swap fly. The tinsel and thread will be purple. I’ve developed a thing for this Danville Flymaster thread, but only have it in black so far. I’m just starting to get the hang of slip wing wets… Let me know what ya think!
Zac

hey, Zac, that’s great! the wing looks good and the color…just my kind of fly. ![]()
just a thought–on a lot of the wet flies i’ve seen, the tail is made like the wing, but with a narrower pair of feather slips. it’s just the difference between “show” and “throw”. either way is fine for our swap.
