Cole's Split-wing Cripple SBS

Those black wings really stand out on those fall, drizzly, flat-light days when the baetis are pouring off the water.

thread - Uni 8/0 olive dun
shuch - Z-lon amber

Abdomen - biot olive brown

Part 1

Mash down barb, start thread

tie in a hank of Congo Hair and figure-8 it; twist ends together to keep it out of the way

tie in shuck, wrap back to bend; trim (gap width)

tie in a few mallard flank fibers (shank length)

moisten biot and tie in (notch side down for ribbed effect, up for smooth; your choice); wrap forward, tie off and trim

tie in foam strip (gap width)

Part 2

dub thread, dub thorax

pull foam forward, tie off, trim; half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trim wings (shank length), check the seams on your rain gear and pray for crummy weather

That’s a great BWO pattern. I’m going to tie some up for the coming hatches.
