Hello everyone;
Does the cold weather cause the bamboo rods to become brittle, and easier to break?

Dear Harold,
No, bamboo is no more fragile than any other rod building material.
Some older rods have smaller guides that were designed for use with silk lines. This can create a bit of a problem with icing, but all guides will ice up.

Tim Murphy
Thanks Tim;
Tim’s right of course. It’ll be fine.

Harold,
They made ski poles from bamboo for years, no effect other than watching for ice buildup in the guides as you would for any other rod.

If you have a Split Cane Fly Rod with the orginal silk guides, may I suggest that you try Cortland Sylk Fly Line. It was created by Cortland for the Split Cane Fly Rods to replace the original silk fly line. Same diameter size as silk fly line, same weight, same color (mustard yellow), and none of the hassles of drying or greasing the line.
Cortland Sylk Fly Line works great on Graphite Fly Rods also!
