Coiling leaders

Hi all,
I have started to make my own leaders, no particular reason other than I am now fairly good at tying blood knots! I can find lots on uncoiling leaders, but I want to coil them to put them in a leader wallet for use later on. Thoughts on how to coil a leader for this purpose? I really don’t want to waste a pretty good leader my messing it up in storage.
Thanks,
Mike

I tie many of my own leaders. I also use different leaders for different fishing techniques and hence change leaders on stream. I always coil leader starting from the tippet end and wrapping around 4 fingers. Leave about 6" of the butt end of the leader and loop this through / around the coil five times. Then slip the coiled leader in a leader wallet or zip lock. Uncoiling is just the reverse process. Take it slow and do it consistently and you shouldn’t have problems.

Thanks John, that is what I needed! Now I can store my first attempt and know I stand a chance of being able to use it!
Mike

Thanks again John. I just coiled my first attempt and it seems to be just perfect! Now, to label and do some more.
Thank you very much,
Mike

Have you ever tried furled leaders. They just don’t coil.

Hi Lotech,
I actually have some of yours! I’m trying out various things since I can!
Thanks,
Mike

on furled leaders…since they do not coil…I wrap them around the four fingers as well. Then remove and double it over so it is about an inch long, open up a paper clip and make a small hook in one end, place it around the middle of the leader…sorry my mistake…NOT after doubling it…duh…after I take it off my fingers…I can hook the paper clip on the middle of it and pull it thru a small piece of surgical tubing. I end up with about an inch of tubing wit a decent amount of leader protruding out of each end. I can carry several of them that way just in my shirt pocket or any vest pocket.
