One of the fly clubs I belong to has had a fly rod raffle board going for the past couple of months. I won. We had three choices of fly rods. A TFO Impact 9’, 6wt, 4pc with fighting butt; A TFO BVK 10’, 6wt, 4pc with fighting butt; or a TFO Finesse 8’9", 3wt, 4pc.
I am torn between the Impact or the BVK. Not sure which one I want the most, but I will have to decide before the next meeting.
I decided on the BVK, 10’, 6wt, 4pc rod. It is a specialty rod and not that many people use longer rods (I don’t know why because they are great) so I figured the Impact 9’, 6 wt and the smaller Finesse would do better in the next two fly rod raffle boards. As it turns out, one of our club members contacted me because he was about to buy that same TFO rod, the BVK 10’ 6wt for fishing chronnies up in Canada this summer. He offered to buy the rod so I sold it to him and will turn that money around for more raffle items for the club. A win-win.
What I have done is I added a TFO fly reel to each of the two remaining fly rods as well as a rod/reel case for each. Makes the next two rod raffle boards even sweeter.
SInce you have already made it a moot point, I feel compelled to respond!
About four or five years ago I got a 10’ 4wt BVK and it has turned into my favorite searun Dolly Varden rod and a favorite grayling rod in the wind. With an AirFlo Ridge line it easy to make the entire fly line disappear through the guides… Of all my rods it would be the first replaced if all were stolen at once.
