What’s your material/ color combinations on Clousers for trout?
R
Rocketfish
I use 3 different color combinations. Natural + White, Chartreuse + White, Blue + White.
My best producer is the natural and I try to use the lightest color of tan in the tail and will sometimes top the tan with a darker brown from the same tail using 3 colors.
Oh and I use deer hair and never a synthetic.
I’ve had real good luck with smaller ones (#6-10) tied using either red fox (Foxee Clouser) or coyote tail with rootbeer Crystal Flash; trout may take them for crayfish.
Regards,
Scott
I like natural /white , olive / white in size 6 to 10
Also only bucktail.
wet
Olive/white, burnt orange/tan, and chart./white. I try to keep them on the smallish side.
i tie little brook , brown, and rainbow clousers on a size 6 hook, and have had real good luck on the brook and brown, but not on the rainbow
Is the “brook” a dark green over red?
Is the “brown” a brown over yellow?
Is the “rainbow” a dark green over pink over white?
Any color, as long as it’s all black!
PS: What hook style or # do you guys prefer?
Mustad 3366.

foxxee with wild fox tail , hands down favorite among fish…would like to try the black fox tail . i and the trout just like the way they hover in the water during their decent if tied properly. that and the clouser strip retrieve are killer.they have long since replaced wooly buggers in my box.
me too…like the ring eye and price
Don’t forget to add some crystal flash, makes all the difference in the world.
TT.
i use a fl.blue over white with a chain bean
Anyone use or seen Closers tied on a kink shank hook? The front kink makes locating the eyes consistent if you’re tying very many of them. The rest of the kinks disappear in the body.
I agree. The foxee minnow is my favorite.
fishndave,
i tie the same little brook brown rainbow clouser as i do when tieing brook brown and rainbow bucktails the only exception is i use a little flashabou in them. blue on the brook , gold on the brown , pink on the rainbow. also try googleing ,“brrok trout clouser” on the net. seems to me someone has a couple of published patterns out their.
tight lines
I saw Bob Clouser tie flies at a show in Michigan a few years ago. I said that the guys that fish the Au Sable river should tie up a few in olive and yellow using squirrel tail. I did. He was right.

Here’s where I first saw it.
