hook - Dai Riki 700 #2
thread - UTC 140 Hot Orange
tail feelers - Krystal Flash pearl
body - 2mm foam dark brown
rib - dubbing (split thread rope) orange/rust/Orange ice dub mix
underwing - Krystal Flash pearl
wing - deer hair dark brown
wing pad - 2mm foam dark brown
indicator - 2mm foam orange
thorax - dubbing orange/rust/Orange ice dub mix
legs - medium rubber brown

Part 1

Pattern calls for a bent-shank hook so I rolled my own(made the bend about 1/3 back from the eye); mash barb and start thread

dub a little bump; tie in KF on either side

tie in foam strip (about 1/3 gap width); create thread loop at back

move thread to forward bend, brush shank with Super Glue, wrap foam; tie off and trim

insert dubbing in loop, twist, then wrap forward as rib; tie off

Part 2

tie in KF underwing, fold back

clean, stack, measure (tips extend to hook point) a clump of deer hair; tie in, trim butts

tie in rear legs

taper foam strip (gap width); tie in

Part 3

fold wing pad back; tie in

tie in indicator

pull foam back and dub thorax

tie down pad and indicator at eye

tie in front legs

half hitch x 2, SHHAN

trim what needs trimming

Do you know the thinking behind the bent shank?

Not 100% sure but I think it suggests an egg layer.
