Just wondering if anyone has any advice good or bad on the clearwater 2 rods. Im interested in purchasing one and before I do I wanted to know if anyone has one and what your feeling is about them. Anything would be appreciated
I bought a 5 wt for my nephew. I have not fished it, but was impressed with what I did see of it. In some ways, it reminds me of my 5 wt. Helios (which is why I chose that one for him).
I have the 4-pc 6wt and my bro-in-law has the 2-pc 5wt. We both love the rods. Before I bought the rod, I tried 4 others ranging from $150 to $650 and liked the CW II the best. But remember, different rods for different people.
I purchased one rod via the internet, never again. If I can’t cast it before buying it’s not worth buying, no matter what the price.
Don’t know if this helps but I have a Orvis Clearwater 6.0 Midflex, 9ft, 8wt, 2 piece that is a sweet rod. The rod feels like a medium to medium-fast action rod. It is one of the few rods that I can cast into the backing on a good day. Thank you James Castwell for teaching me to double haul.
I must confess that the rod was given to me by a fellow FAOL member. I am taking a serious look at the Clearwater II in a 6 or 7 wt for my next rod. I would easily have paid the full retail for my rod without regret. If you don’t like it you can always resell it on ebay and get your money back. Anything with the Orvis name on it brings top dollar there.
P.S. My rod is an 8wt not a 6wt. Sorry.
Hi NY,
When I came back to fly fishing, I bought four complete Orvis Clearwater outfits from four weight to nine weight in the mid-flex action. I’ve fished these rods for last six years and I am totally satisfied. Great product with lots of “bang for the buck.” These were the original Clearwaters, not Clearwater II but I can’t imagine that Orvis has gone and made the newer rods badly. My 9’, mid-flex, four-weight is a honey of a rod. I think that you will be very happy with the Clearwater II. 8T
I have an Orvis Clearwater rod. Mid Flex 7.5, 9ft., 5 wt. with a Clearwater
Classic III reel. I learned to fly fish with it and have used it continuously for a
number of years. It’s a great rod and reel and I would recommend one like it
to anyone.
