I broke my AirFlo clear intermediate line trying to straighten it out after it had been on my spool for a while, so I’m looking for a replacement. I’m seeking opinions about the Rio Aqualux clear intermediate “Lake” line and the Cortland “Clear Camo” line from experienced users. Specifically, I’d like to know about castability/shootability and spool “memory” coils. I’m going to be casting it from a float tube with a 9’ 5wt rod. Thanks!
I have both…
Memory issues with both…but not as bad as the original Cortland clear …
I can’t really answer re: your other questions since I haven’t really compared them that closely and besides one is a 5wt and one a 6wt.
Tough to beat the Cortland Clear and Clear Camo lines. Some others are as good, but I have yet to cast better.
Got to agree on the Cortland. I had the Rio and it broke and was very curly, but the Cortland doesn’t seem to be as bad in the cold. Of course a large arbor helps
You should also look at the Cortland Climax clear sink tip lines. The Climax are the same as the 444’s (not sure why Cortland makes both). I have the 5wt and 6wt. They have 9’ clear sinking tips, then the line goes to its regular color. Very good as far as coiling, at least in 55 degree plus water. Pretty supply and cast very well.
