Cleaning/treating with ZipCast

Joe Hyde…I doubt if ANYONE abused their line more than I did, & ZipCast breathed new life into them! I maybe cleaned & treated them once or twice in the sink before I gave up. Using ZipCast is so easy that I have no excuse for failing to take care of my line.

Dave…I’m not going NEAR you until the “lightning” has struck!!

Andrew…I use ZipCast on Rio Grand, Rio Clouser, SA Ultra (3 & 4), Wulff Triangle Taper, & others…never had an issue. It truly is great stuff.

TyroneFly…Just google for “anglers image line winder”…I didn’t find it from an FAOL sponsor, so I will leave you to your choice of where to buy. I WILL tell you that I got mine 2 years ago when I went to the Virginia Fly Fishing Festival…I couldn’t get it shipped to my home in time for the Festival, so I called Mossy Creek Outfitters in Harrisonburg, Virginia. They ordered it & had it waiting for me when I arrived. Now I make it a point to do business with them every time I am in that area.

Mike

Andrew,

ZipCast has no detrimental effects on any fly line. There are some that even use it to clean Sharkskin lines and also silk lines too.

Dot

At one time Cortland sold them, might do still.

JC…That was the first sponsor I checked & was unable to find them, but when I read this post of yours I decided to check further & Cortland Line Co DOES still carry the linewinder, and they ARE an FAOL sponsor. Here is what I came up with…

Angler’s Image Line Winder
Sold by Cortland Line Co www.cortlandline.com/
$54.95 + $7.00 shipping (of course, no tax outside NY)
Call 607-753-7835 9am-5pm Mon-Fri or 8am -4pm Sat (Eastern time)
They will take the order & ship it right from there.

BTW…This winder folds up & travels easily in a plastic pouch that is slightly smaller than 5" x 12"…I also keep my ZipCast & cleaning patches in the pouch.

Mike

$54.00 for a line winder? I don’t think so. Guess I’ll stick with my home made one.

Brad

Let us not forget these line winders. I made a couple of them for less than fifteen bucks. And one of these for a few bucks if I want to keep the line in looser coils.

A sponsor, Struble, may still sell a line winder.

Cheers,

MontanaMoose

If you not in to much of a hurry, I have seen the Angler’s Image Line Winder come up on eBay every now and again. Can usually get them there for under $20.
DickM.

A LINE WINDER? Now let mee see, $54.00, NO WAY HOZE’. I pull the line ( 2-3 feet at a time off the reel with my right hand, hold it with my left hand, place a cleaning swab in my right hand and run it down the exposed line length. Then I repeat the process till I reach the end of the line. Cost- IXNAY. That’s how I do it and it seems to work for at least the 6-7 times I’ve cleaned my lines in the last 5 or so years.

Mark

I’m with Marco!! Don’t need no hi-tech stuff to clean a fly line.
Just Zip Cast and a clean 12 ga. cleaning patch.

Mike, actually, I do fold this one down and I DO take it with me, like to Michigan for instance. Besides, it’s so darned ‘kewl’ lookin.’

Actually I don’t use a winder for line cleaning…they are for changing line, etc.

I like to stretch the line between the railings on my deck and then walk the line with a gun cleaning patch with ZipCast.

Two birds with one stone…stretches out memory and cleans the line.

Duck, me too. I string the line around inside the house to clean it with whatever I might be using. The winder I use for installing new lines or switching lines.

Why? This sounds great to me! I’ve often thought of building a setup like that. I get to use the one at work, so I’ve just never bothered…

A shot? Not from me. I love power tools! Especially when they are home made. How about some pictures?
Brad

aaaaah. I shouldn’t have put that last line in I guess. It’s sort of like Pavalov’s dog though. If I post too many times it seems people get annoyed with me and shoot zingers at me…put me down. Or if I post a pic or state something of good forutne for me…there are people on here who will post zingers at me and insult me. So it’s just a gut feeling I have and that is why the last line. I posted once that I understood Betty’s post icw furled leaders. A person I thought of as a friend posted a snooty remark…“oh…well of course YOU understood it, because YOU are from Arizona” I know of no other way to interpret that remark than just taking a pot shot at me. I know not why he felt like doing it. I have received many other zingers as well. So I have some enemies out there.

Anywhooo…I will consider the pic. NOT being snooty…there would be some issues behind it and I am not sure I should do it. I didn’t build it. A fellow friend did…hoping to sell it to Orvis and they passed on it. So he has about ten in his house he won’t part with. But I have one. I am not supposed to show it to anyone.

I should not have made the post at all. I only wanted to sorta inform other readers that there are other winders out there besides the ones that have already been posted. I am going to delete my earlier post. Think I will send a pic to Kaboom and Heritage Angler and that be the end of it. I need to learn to keep my big mouth shut…become a reader and not a poster. Now I got’s my uh…pectoral in a wringer.

Gemrod
It will take me a while. I haven’t taken pics…haven’t uploaded to photobucket in a long time…haven’t uploaded a pic to FAOL in a long time. Will probably fumbler around a bit.

Going to meet my dirty dozen friends at our regular Monday morning coffee clutch…and or breakfast. Six inches of snow here. Probably nobody fishing this past few days.

Regret length of msg. oh crappadoodle. Already have 6" of snow and today weather says snow showers early becoming steady…3" of snow today with 30 mph winds. Won’t be doing much outside today. I know. Nobody asked for a weather report. After all I’m in AZ.

Same here.

Oh, Jack, if you tie the line to someones belt loop and then bring the 12 gauge up…well…you’d be shocked how fast they can strip all of the line and backing. All over an empty shotgun too. Might have trouble getting them to stop running and come back though.:lol:

And what # test tippet do you like to use? I’m sure you recommend using a furled leader:p.

Help! I’ve looked for ZipCast in two different fly tackle shops now. Neither shop carried it and the employees in both shops told me they’d never heard of it.

Is this a new product just out? Something not available in stores that you must order direct from the manufacturer? What’s a typical bottle cost?

Joe
“Better small than not at all.”
