SWAP IS FULL dries, wets, or streamers. If you have to ask if it’s a classic it probably isn’t. Very new tiers may get cut a little slack about asking but I can be a world class wiseass. Open to a dozen people. Sign up by Jan.15th and have your flies to me by Feb. 15. I’ll tie a #14 adams which is really the only dry fly anyone needs;).
Jim let me in my friend. Did a google search on classic trout flies and came up with a bunch. Thinking of streamer or wet but may even go all out and do a dry and that scares the hell out of me LOL ( wings are still kicking my *** )
Save my spot and I will try a few tonight AT WORK and let you know what I will be tying in the mornig.
Chgarlaine, Tim, Wet fly guy, you’re in. I’m looking foreward to seeing your flies. Tim you’ve been tying long enough to be ready to handle dries. Go for it! If you can’t get it we can spend some time going over wings at the Mi fish-in. Don’t do what I do and you’ll be fine.
Ooo, ooo, can I play? I’d love to get in on this one. I’ve always been a huge fan of the Hendrickson’s but I’d like to take a look at some other dries too. Great idea rainbow’.
Mr. blur and George Emanuel I’m very glad to have you both in this swap.
George you have given me an idea for another swap to follow this one. I wonder if there would be any interest in a classic ties swap. I would tie my adams as Halliday tied his etc. Maybe if people would include their research or in some cases memories of how the fly was originally tied on the toe tags I could try to combine them with the fly pictures into an article for FAOL. Of course some substitutions would be necessary. You wouldn’t tie a Borcher’s Drake as Ernie Borcher first tied it with condor quill unless you like paying big fines. If you did tie them I hope you wouldn’t send them to me. I’ll have to think about this for February
please change the size of my entry to #16 as i had forgotten that classic brassies where tied on straght hooks not scuds. thank you . and their done too
O.K. It’s changed. Actually I used to use a lot of size 18 brassies in the Muskegon River before it became overcrowded. Gary La Faontaine in CADDISFLIES suggests that they are a good gravel cased caddis larva imitation and that river has great caddis hatches. Oh, and your out of the army now so start procrastinating a little. You are making us malingering civilians look bad.
i know i could have still tied it in the 18 but because i do not have #18 straght shank hooks i went to 16 because in tridition with the swap as classic I wanted to go the tridional rout with the brassie because of the fact that the scud version has taken over. of and its hard to procrastinate when i tie 4-8 hrs a day right now till i eather find work or my disability comes in or my girlfriend comes over. so its hard to sometimes. lol besides it calms me down and helps me to keep a clear head at times.
I’m game, that is if you take European swappers, will do a dry CdC Mayfly like Olliver Edwards tought us. Please give me your thoughts about a compensation for the postage that you will have to come up for. Extra flies? Paypal? Goodies?
