Clasic Wet Fly Swap Patterns

Some recent flies I tied for a Classic Wet Fly Swap. I’ts been decades since I did traditional wets, so I got carried away on this swap, and instead of tying 15 identiical classic flies, I found myself changing every time to a new pattern, based on all the great photos I could get off the internet. I had a lot of fun and sent all of them to the swapmeister as a gift. He had to figure which ones to return to the swappers.

Those are ALL really really cool! For some reason, the 3rd one from the bottom, far right side (which is also the 2nd one up from the bottom right ON the mat), catches my eye. Where can I find a pattern for that one?

That one is a take-off of a classic pattern, one of the few that I did experiment with. It’s fairly easy if you use my rope-dub technique. The tail is blue peacok neck-fan barbs, same for the body, except the fan barbs are rope-dubbed, which creates the segments. The wing is drake mallard wing, and the beard is peacock eye tips with a dash of red hackle thrown in. I don’t remember exactly which pattern I modified, as many were similar except for the materials used. Sorry I didn’t take better photos.

AWESOME! If you ever get excited like that again, my address is…
