Christmas has arrived!

Christmas is here! Yea! so what if I paid for some of the things myself. I just got an email from my wife at home that I got a couple of big packages in the mail and I can?t wait till 5:00.

Anyways, I did some ebaying last weekend and picked myself up a used Dan-vice and a fly tying bench. I also received at my work address a small package from Paddy80701 with some fly tying materials donated by a friend of his, and now I?m almost in business!

:o <Good angel on right shoulder>
?Hey, it?s already 2:15, you will be off in less then 3 hours, that?s enough time to get in some more quality work. The boss will love you! Then we can go home and play with our new toys.?

 <Bad devil on left shoulder>
(Look, you can take off at 4:55 or 4:50, and the boss won?t even notice? cough cough Wait aren?t you feeling a little sick now, perhaps you should really make good use of one of those sick days you have that won?t roll over to next year. With the new peace of mind you?ll have after playing with your new toys, you know it will benefit the office in the long run.)

You all get the picture I am dealing with here? I, think I will be a saint today, but cough it sure is tempting! :stuck_out_tongue:

Jon

Jon,

Hope you have some fun filled flytying days ahead of you. Sound like you might be new to this or have just gotten started. It’s my favorite thing to do on those cold, dreary, wet days. And yes, the left shoulder will probably win more than the right shoulder. Good luck.

i just got an awesome tying bench (old computer desk) and i got my package from Paddy. i am very complacent rite now!

Personally I think computer desks make great tying desks…the keyboard shelf is handy.

You may be interested in a couple of modifications I’ve made…note the tool storage on the edge…the white bench is made in a closet and that is an add on keyboard shelf added…subsequently I drilled holes in the edge of that shelf too and really find that arrangement handy…

I was planning on useing the keyboard shelf to capture all my clippings, but my vise is in the way of it sliding out  :frowning:

Duck,

That bench of yours is way too clean. A clean desk is the sign of a cluttered mind. I have no problem with that. I haven’t seen the top of my desk in a couple of years.

REE

Nice desk Duckstream. I also noticed you have a Dan-vice. As I got mine used it did not come with any instructions or video as I believe the new ones do. Did you find them usefull at all?

The vice seemed pretty strait forward, and easily understood by anyone not so mechanically declined.

Oh and REE, if it took me an hour and a half to clean off my desk so I would have room for my new tying station is it safe to say I don’t suffer from a cluttered mind either?

Jon

Jon…it’s been so long I don’t remember specifics about the video…as I recall it was short and pretty straight forward about setting up the vise.

Now if you are so inclined I would recommend Al’s video on rotary tying…it presents a lot of techniques that can be eye openers.

BTW , I think my desk and mind are cluttered…I must have swept some stuff aside for the pictures…they were taken a while ago and things are accumulating
