Linda and I took the dogs and went up the St. Joe in northern Idaho to gather some photos of Fall foliage. I took my new (old) Fenwick Ferrulight fiberglass 5 weight along just in case we found a place to fish. I did. Find a place to fish that is. The water was so cold I could only stand it for about 45 minutes, but I’ll bet I hooked up at least 10 times and brought 3 beauties to hand. That old Fenwick casts like a dream and feels great with a 14" Cutthroat attached. I was using a size 12 feather wing Royal Coachman. It was an awesome “Retro” day.
Lotech, I’v found that some of my best times on the waters are those not planned…

If you JUST GOTTA CHRISTEN a rod, that’s about as good a way to do as there is.
Neat pics. So did you get some fall foliage photos to post while you there ?? ( Boy, that’s a dumb question !! )
Flybinder gave me some great information about the St. Joe and it is high on my list of places to explore next summer / fall. Your pics just confirmed that I need to get up there and see it for myself.

On the way in, we spotted two mountain goats. My wife asked if they weren’t maybe white bushes but I explained that I’ve never seen a bush move it’s head. I didn’t even know they were in there. But, there they were. Comfy as you please on a rock outcropping watching our every move.
Nice post, Lo. That is how I rediscovered my Orvis Amber A. I don’t know why I left it in back of the closet so long. The old glass rods are still fun to fish with.
My compliments on the event and especially the choice of fly.Outstanding.
Hi Joe,
What a great start for your new/old rod. May it continue to give you excellent fishing. 8T
