I’ve never caught one with such a pronounced humped head as this bluegill. His eye was huge as well. From what I have read it’s an old male bluegill aka “stump knocker”. He had a nasty scar on his side as well. Probably should have removed him but didn’t.

Looks like that old boy has survived a few battles. He didn’t get that big by being a whimp or by being stupid.

Yep, that’s a grandaddy bluegill all right. He deserves to head back out to the pond and warn the grandfry to stay away from that guy with the tasty looking flies

Why do they call them hump heads?
Nice perch. For a second I thought you had a Rio Grande Perch. They have the huge hump like that.
