Chat room Java question

I had to replace my old laptop, as it died. I have resurrected all my settings but I can not get into the chat room. I don’t see the “original fly angler” and the page tells me my browser does not have Java support turned on. Here’s the question. How do I turn on Java support in my browser. I have been through all the pages under the Tools/Internet Options with no luck. Anyone know how to turn the Java support on for IE ver 6?

Thanks,
Clint

Budd, What browser are you using? It makes a difference.

I use Dogpile for a browser, you can use Yahoo also. Both keep me going.

I am using IE6 under Windows XP.

Hi,
Not sure if the information on this page is useful to you?

In Internet Explorer go to:

Tools
Internet Options
Advanced

Scroll down the list and you will see either “Microsoft VM” or “Java (Sun).” You can check the box to enable the Virtual Machine. If you don’t see at least one of these you must download and install one of them.

Here’s the link for the Sun version:

Bud,

I have the same problem. Have never been able to get into chat room for same reasons you listed. Running Windows XP on Netscape 7.2 Tried downloading Java etc.; but, nothing seems to work.

Dagnabit anyway@#$%^&*. Just checked JAVA installation on the computer through the link and the test said I’m running the latest version and still no “Froggie” or chat room access. A pox on the “Willie Gator!!!”

Grn Mt Man, have you tried using Internet Explorer 6? If you use Netscape you should maybe try the latest version. Do you have firewall software installed? Is it the latest version? If you have firewall software have you tried disabling it and try to connect?

Bluegill Budd, are you still having problems?

Do either of you have firewall software installed?

Joe

Joe,

Thanks for the suggestions. Haven’t tried IE6 and I do have a firewall installed. Will use your suggestions and see if that helps.

For those of you who were following this thread, I thought I would update. The facilitation of Java on my new computer was really easy once I figured out what was missing. I still have access to the hard disk of the old computer and as I was copying files I noticed a Java Directory on it. Checking the new machine showed no such directory. I foolishly thought that my new computer came with it but was mistaken. All I did was install Java on my computer. Easily done by clicking the link on the Chat Room page and following the directions. The install sets all the permissions needed and now I even get the Sponsor links that are Java. Thanks to all who replied.

Java does NOT come with the Windows operating. You must install it on your own. This is because of a court ruling in Sun vs. Microsoft. The judge decided that software to run Java programs could not be included but could be made available from both Sun (Java) and Microsoft (Microsoft VM) and it would be up to the individual to decide if they wanted it and which they wanted. You have to download and install it yourself.

Joe

Thans Joe, …

BTW, … If you can (and want to) … de-install the Java that Micro$oft puts available, … including the registry entries and install ONLY Sun Java components.

I use MSJVM Removal Tool 1.0a

which you can find at: [url=http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4158:64121]http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4158[/url:64121]
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size=“1” face=“Verdana”>quote:</font><HR>The Microsoft JVM Removal Tool can be used to remove the MS Java Virtual Machine (MSJVM). Use of this tool is the only supported method for removing the MSJVM from a Microsoft operating system.

Editors Note: The MSJVM Removal Tool is no longer hosted on Microsoft download servers. Because the MSJVM Removal Tool affects the whole system, and because these effects are not reversible, it was decided that this utility would be made available only to system administrators, to network administrators, and to other IT professionals. Unless you just found this <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

What is wrong with having them both installed?

Actually when I checked recently I noted I only had the Sun Systems one…wonder what happened to the Microsoft one???..I don’t believe I uninstalled it…XP

Duck, … you were probably LUCKY and NEVER had the Micro$oft version installed.

Why not both, … lets just say that Microsoft doesn’t like Sun Microsystems.

They just don’t co-habitat very well in the same universe.

Happens all the time …

ducksterman, you don’t have the Microsoft VM because you never installed it. It’s up to the individual to decide which they want and install it. If you want to use Java you must have one of them, no need to have both and your better off with just one.
