I was brain storming, (more like a sqaull than an actual storm )I have an idea for a swap. I was thinking small for the first one if it works out then I would do it again. So lets say five tiers plus myself (6 total) Here is the idea.
I will pick out the number of flys (basic ones) that corresponds with the number of tyers. I will then then write the flys on a piece of paper and draw them from a hat assigning them to each tyer in order of sign up. I will then email you the recipe and you tie the fly. Now, this could be difficult if you never tied the pattern but would be a good learning experience and I am always in for learning something new. Anyhow, I will detaill the particulars like time frame for the swap and such after I get the tyers.
I am interested in the concept but would have to know at least the style or type of flies involved BEFORE I committed to joining.
Let me know if you want to give out a few more details before you start the swap.
It wont be anything to elaborate, (though the concept makes it out to be) I am trying to learn new patterns and figure this is a good way to learn and do it with others. If it works out well I will do it again and your more than welcome to come along or you can come along and if it doesnt work for you back out before we get started. Either way I hope to get to swap with you some day.
My thought is that I will chose six different patterns that cover a range of fly fishing all freshwater though it may involve patterns for warm water, night fishing, etc… I have one more spot open as of now so if you would like let me know asap. If not see how it goes and get in on the next.
I don’t get brainstorms … just a light drizzle now and again. Noticed the swap filled up fast. This sounds like a fun swap. If you decide to do another one please count me in. I love the format. I’ll not ask you to increase the number of tiers since it seems the swap is already closed — it wouldn’t be fair to all the other tiers. But if you do host another one of these I’ll be glad to join.
Here is a tenitive list of the the flies you may get your chance to tie. If there is any objections (materials are hard to come by etc…) let me know and I will make changes if needed.
All the flys are right of the archives here so that the recipe and tying instructions are easily found. Ok, so take a peek if any comments please let me know. It is ok to tie these with some variation of materials but make sure if you do that its not becasue you always tie it that way. This swap is about a chance to hone your skills and maybe find a pattern that catches lotttts of fish.
Harvey,
That works for me. It’s your swap, you pick whatever flies that appeal to you. Not knowing what we will be tying is part of the fun of this swap.
Steve
fine by me…as long as neither of the midges get the midge
Also…I’m up for letting Greg sneak in this one, if it’s alright with the swapmaster and everyone else…others have done it for me before …Jason
Well I did the drawing today, Had my girlfriend pick numbers out of a hat, (cabelas hat ) and the results are in. You can each find the recipe in the archives, again some modifications are fine but the object is to tie a new fly not one you tie all the time. I am sure you have all tied most of these patterns one way or another but mayb not this exact one.

Hey wireguy, Thanks again for letting me join this swap. I have completed a few of my flies and even took a few fishing the other day. I could not believe how many fish took a stab at my new flies. I will have the rest in the mail by the weekend. Chris
