Cataracts-one down, one to go!

I had my followup of the first cataract surgery (right eye) today. Left eye gets done next Wednesday, 3/24. Doc said eye is healing nicely & it looks absolutely perfect. He expects me to need glasses for reading ONLY. YAHOO!
I am pumped for fishing this year…I may even be able to see a small dry on the water…something that I wasn’t able to do last year…even WITH glasses. Even though folks who had cataracts removed told me I would be delighted, I never realized the level of improvement until this right eye was done. If I close the left & look at anything white through my right eye, by golly, it is WHITE. When I close the right eye & look at that same white through the left eye, it has a hazy, greenish/yellow color to it. The difference is amazing. Nice to see true color again, including BLUE skies! I can’t wait ‘til both are done. Then, I’m goin’ FISHING!
Mike

Yeah!!! :):)

Tuber,

Ain’t it great. I only had a cataract on the left eye, so only had the one repaired. The color difference is amazing. Think about (in my case) a 63 year old lens as oppesed to a 7 year old lens. The color and brightness difference is just amazing. Before you go fishing, have a really good pair of polarized sunglasses and be sure you wear them ALL the time your on the water.

REE

Ron,
You & I ABSOLUTELY agree on buying & using HIGH quality polarized sunglasses.
I did a lot of research & have already decided on Maui Jim Ho’okapi sunglasses. I found out after I decided on them that my eye Doc carries & wears them too. He SWEARS by 'em! He did tell me to just buy a pair of “cheapy” polarized immediately after the second surgery & hold off on the good ones for a month (until the eyes are completely healed).

Good Grief MIkey!! You got old quick!! Maybe now you’ll be able to see well enough to drive down here for some Trout fishin’!! hehehehehe!!

Good for you! I hope that the other one goes as well.

Hi Mike,

Very glad to hear the good medical news on your eye situation. I’m also very happy to hear the positive reports from all the other FAOLers because the my eye doctor says that I can look forward to the same double surgery in another year or two. By all means get out there and fish but be very careful with the hook. 8T

… Mike.

I’m excited for you. Here’s hoping operation number two is equally successful.

WOW - just think, blue skies, green grass, and brown trout !! You might even get to see a rainbow clearly !!

John

YEEE HAAAAWW! GO Tuber, ain’t no fish safe this summer!!!
JohnScott means RAINBOW TROUT of course!!

Good news Mike. I’ll pray for both of those eyes. You do realize, don’t you, that your excuse for drastically over-stating the size of yuor saltwater bluegills will be gone?

Ed

Great news Mike. This should be your theme song when you are through.

Thanks for all the great comments & prayers folks!
For those expecting to have this done in the future, it is a cakewalk…absolutely painless!
Mike

Tuber,

Did you realize your eye was open while the surgery was going on. I felt a little stick of a needle, then waited for the surgery to begin. A bit later I heard the Doctor calling for sutures. I thought “Sutures, he hasn’t even started yet.”

It is a cakewalk for sure. Don’t wait to long to look into the operation if you have cataracts.

REE

Glad to hear that all went well.
The invitation to come down and torment a few trout here in WV ts still open!

Great news on the eyes. I have Fuch’s distrophy and now cateracts, as well. Had a cornea (DSEK) transplant in left eye last january with complications of haze in the graft. Now the cateract in that eye is causing vision problems. Vision in right eye is becoming cloudy in cornea due to Fuch’s. Will probaly have Cateract surgery (both eyes) later this year and DSEK in right eye at same time.

That is good news Mike! Glad all is working out for you. My dad might say that you are no longer “blind in one eye and can’t see out of the other one”.:stuck_out_tongue:

Now when Mikey walks past one of us we won’t be sure if he just doesn’t recognize us with his new found vision … or if he’s thinking, “My gawd I didn’t realize she’s so UGLY! I hope she doesn’t recognize me!!!”.

Betty darlin’…In my eyes, you’ll ALWAYS be beautiful!
Love ya,
Mikey

Mikey,

I am real happy to know all went well on the first eye and have all the faith that the other eye will go the same. Come down and see Jack and I soon my friend…
