Anyone have any favorite carp flies they’ve had success with? We have tons of grass carp in my area to control all the hydrila. I’ve never really targeted them, but I plan to catch a few.
I’ve noticed the carp feed on ficus berries, and have caught them on dark red glo bugs. I’ve had sucess for them on flies that resemble caddis flies. Even had a few on nymphs when they weren’t keying in on the surface.
So how bout it, any proven carp flies out there?

For grass carp, I have success on anything that immitates what they’re eating whether it’s algae, grass clippings, flower petals, etc. Sometimes you’ve gotta get really creative to match the menu, but when you do it right boy howdy does it pay off.
no doubt I catch the majority on wooly buggers, black, browns and olives - basically any earth tone works for me.
Instead of the basic bugger I use dubbing instead of hackle and chennile and just rough it up a bit, probably has a formal name, I dunno, just pull the dubbing so it looks really messy.
