LadyFisher,
My Cheerio flies don’t work. Spinning the deer hair is easy enough, but they come apart when I punch the hole out of the middle
OkieBass;
What ya gotta do is tie them kinda like an extended body mayfly. Then curl it into a circle and tie it on by the edge. That way you never have to punch out the middle.
Took me a while to get that one figured out.
Don
Don, you’d have to tie them without the bobbin or spool if you did it that way. Hard to get a bobbin through the middle of a Cheerio. If the Flytier’s Benchside Reference is said to be the holy book of fly tying, is the bobbin through the Cheerio like the camel through the needle’s eye?
Robert,
They do the same dog food thing at Raystown Lake in PA…and Natural Deer Hair spun and clipped works just fine to imitate dads that they “sell” to those who wish to feed em…( no fishing allowed in this area)…but at my uncles pond I did get them up and feeding regularly and used this ploy…lol…yeah,yeah…I stooped to it…but then I noticed that it did’nt matter if I used the deer fly or a hares ear…the bite was still on…still needed the coaxing of puppy food though…
CarpCrazy,
The Great Charles Brooks,Tied Nymphs with a technique he called “in the round” (Fly Tyer Autum 1997)Great Issue BTW…and I’ve found them Invaluable in the pursuits of Carp,when fishing the mud lines on many streams and rivers, especially the ITR hares ear,ITR PT,ITR Ida May and In-The-Round Jeff’s Hex.
If I had a scanner I’d get the whole article to ya tying details and all…but alass I hav’nt that level of Tech available…
“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact,seen it all before” A.K.Best
“Wish ya great fishing”
