Since yesterdays post, I decided to go fishing today. But since nothing is showing themselves in the river cept for carp, I decided I’d target them.
Well, I know about the wearing the darker clothing such as greens, and being quiet, keeping false casting minimal etc. I did all that, and I threw out a wooly bugger. Well the water was still running just a tad too quick on this bend of the river. So I was drifting between 1-2 feet deep. A couple carp I could see following my bugger up…but wouldn’t take it.
I’ve done so much reading on catching carp. But it certainly doesn’t make them bite:)
I don’t fish to eat, as I don’t like the taste of most fish. Infact, I rarely eat fish. I don’t fish for bragging rights to tell people I caught bass, or a pike. I fish to fish, for the fight. So I’m after carp, big time. And, can’t get them!!! They’re killing me. I’m losing my mind, and it’s going to get worse lol.
There, there, Shane. At least you figured out that it will get worse before it gets better. Once you’ve completely lost your mind, you’ll be at peace… I know because my wife tells me all the time that I’m ‘mindless.’
If you need a fish fix that bad, perhaps you should consider moving to one of the US southern states where fish are available year round. At least it’s an option…
Joe, if I could afford to move, I’d already be there!!! Yeah, I know it’s going to get worse. I did some more reading lastnight. And didn’t want to goto bed, wanted to hit the river for those carp haha. I don’t get up to 2pm, and don’t sleep till 6am. So I went outside before bed and the sun was coming up and I said to myself “Maybe I should load my gear up and see those carp”. But, I went to bed instead. These fish are going to drive me nuts.
I’ll catch them this year, I swear it!
Thanks for the links, I learned a thing or two…I’m ready! (So I think)
Shane
They respond to a variety of chow - most of mine are caught on small nymphs, the same standard patterns used on trout - like the Pheasant tail, AP Black, etc. They can be really spooky and when spawning will ignore flies completely.
They’re vegetation eaters, but they have a taste for much more than that - and Grass Carp love to hang around hydrilla beds. They are a worthy prey and as can be every bit as difficult as trout.
Well, I’m going to catch a carp. I’m heading out again, today. Wish me luck:) I’ve talked to Ian James and read the link above and learned a couple of things that might help me.
I’ll let you know how it goes,
Shane
P.S. I don’t intend to catch, I intend to at least have one on…since I have my 2wt lol!
Shane…I don’t think you need your mind…just let it go. Most of us have, and we’re much happier now ! Keep your 2wt. and your fly tackle though, all you need is that and persistance, and you’ll succeed…ModocDan
speaking of carp, I’m itching to cast into a drainage ditch (more of a small waterway) near my house where I’ve seen them rooting around the last couple of summers…
I’m in and out of town a lot over the fishing season but if you want to get together sometime soon, before the carp start spawning, give me a shout via email. Right now I like hitting Gibbons Park.
