I am interested in hosting a swap during my break from school. Let’s do a Carp Fly Swap. Any fly you use for Carping! Mulberry, Corn, Damsel Nymph, Bugger, Crawdad, anything! Let’s see what you got!
Here’s how we will get 'er done: Twelve (12) people, name your fly for Carp and tie twelve (12) flies. I wanna try and stick with Bassman’s swap etiquette… ya know, self-addressed stamped envelope for return, crush-proof box, toe tags, recipes are welcome with fly or on the BB! I will PM those that sign up with my addy by PM.
Due Dates to be mindful of: Sign-up by December 22nd (Saturday) and Flies IN by Saturday, January 5th, 2008 (if that is too quick, we can back it up a bit if everyone is on-board)
Let’s have some fun tying!!! :tieone:

I’d like to join please, fly TBA. Pushing back may be nice because I have All-State band coming up soon, which will occupy a lot of time, but if you can’t push back, I will get em in.
Can I get in with this one? It’s a version of the Clouser Swimming Nympth. It works good for me on large carp, especially behind the dam.
Hook: Tiemco 200R sz. 8 weighted with wire.
Thread: 6/0 Uni-Thread, rust orange
Tail: Brown Marabou with a few strands of OD Krystal Flash.
Body and Thorax: Orvis Angora Goat Dubbing, Brown Olive
Hackle: Brown Grizzly Neck Hackle
Wing Case: 5 strands of Peacock Herl.
I’ve been wanting to tie a floating white thing that imitates cottonwood fluff, although my only carp have come on nymphs. This is purely experimental and there is absolutely no basis for its success. It just seems that when the cottonwood fluff hits the river that the carp are on it. If this is okay with you and the other swappers, put me down. Thanks. JGW
Scott, it’s basically a Hare n’ Copper, a scraggly affair they tie down in New Zealand that’s great for any number of warmwater species. I can’t tell much difference between it and the Hair’s Ear people talk about. Maybe a little messier. The messier the better, though. I’m not much of a carp fisher, but I’ve caught a few when they’re scrummaging around by laying the fly out in front of them and using a slow retrieve. My limited success is why they call fishing “luck.” I’m excited about the swap, though. Sounds like great fun. JGW
