Must confess that I have become addicted to carp on the long rod. Went out today for about an hour to a local park. The best method I have found to tackle these giants in muddy water is to chum with bread for a bit and then drift a #16 light cahil patterns through the feeding frenzy. This proved excellent today not only for carp but catfish (first time catching catfish on a fly rod). I ended up landing one carp about 18 lbs and lost 3 other that where much larger. I was using a 8’6" #5 with 3x tippet. What a blast!
Uh Oh. This could be fun.

Bluewave you might brace yourself for some critisism…dunno…we’ll see . Sounds like alot of fun, I really want to go after some carp, however they are not around here. Maybe i’ll try for some suckers this summer, any suggestions on flies? Anywho, congrats and I hope you catch the bigger ones next time. Good luck

Hi Blue,
Sounds like a lot of fun. Being hooked
on carp is a heck of a lot better than being
hooked on drugs.G I’ve caught two so far,
both over 40 pounds on my 6 wt stowaway.
I dare say it was a hoot, but not something
I’d care to do every day. Have fun and
don’t let the guys razz you too much. It’s
all good!G Warm regards, Jim
bluewave6, anyone who gives you any crap about carp will be banned. Period! Welcome. There is som info on here, more as it’s available. Look around, enjoy. JC
“How long does it take to learn fly-fishing?
No one knows.”

I think the possible criticism would be about chumming not about carp.

Jed, these guys are all gentlemen. You will not see any one condeming chumming.
The ‘San Juan Shuffel’ was not invented by bait fishermen.
