Carnage Salmonfly Skater SBS

This one started out as an October Caddis, inspired by Bill Bakke’s steelhead pattern, but quickly morphed into a salmon fly. Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait 8 months to see if it works.

hook - Dai Riki 135 #8
thread - UTC 140 black
core - 20lb mono
tail - fox squirrel tail
abdomen - 1 mm foam orange
hackle - saddle brown

put a loop in one one of the mono, brush on a little Super Glue and tie in

clean, stack, measure (about 1.5 hook length using the scud hook) a clump of squirrel tail; tie in/trim butts

divide and post wing

Part 2

clean, stack, measure (2 times hook length) another, smaller clump of squirrel tail; tie in/trim butts cover junction with thread

adjust angle, hook loop onto the gallows; wrap tail around core

tie in a strip of foam

brush underbody with Super Glue; wrap foam up to tail, brush on a little more glue, wrap back to tie in, then trim

Part 3

tie in (folded) hackle by tip; wrap forward, stroking fibers back, tie off/trim

Take a few wraps in front of wing to help set angle, whip finish, SHHAN
