Cane...

Lotech…that is a beautiful description of fishing bamboo…the feel is more than in the rod, isn’t it.

Is Gink still making rods?

Grubb,
Find out if anyone is having a conclave where makers will be getting together in your area with other folks to fish, show off rods for folks to try, giving demos a plain good old fashioned gathering of like minds casting some rods. I bet you’ll not only get answeres to your questions you’ll have a whole boatload of new ones to ask as well plus you’ll have a ball… Good Luck…

Ladies and Gentelmen, I have made a decision, and finalized it today. I want to thank evryone for there input and yes I posted on other bb’s… I felt like I had too, the info from my post’s and e-mail I got was almost to much to sort threw. Bamboo1963 thanx for going the extra mile and others. I have to say that not anyone person made my decision. In the end it all came down very close between 2 builders, and I may have gotten some folks on another bb, confused with the way I posted a Q. Thankfuly, low and be-hold FAOL members new what I was talking about or new my state of mind and came threw, cause I guess they new me well enough from here and put the frosting on the cake… What was it? I ain’t gonna say cause the dif. was a personnel choice. Nothing to do with anything else, many fine builders where presented to me, and I know from everything posted e=mail etc. of very good quality… at last today after I made my decision and was confident I had made the right one, I picked up the phone and called Bill Taylor to finalize, and after talking with him, felt even better. Cane in the works… Oh, and yes, indeed a sponsor.

Grubb, congrats! I’m on the waiting list for a rod from Bill also, I’m hoping to have it before the spring hatches. I have heard nothing but great things about Bill’s work. I’m sure we will both be happy.

Congratulations, Grubb! It was my pleasure to help you out. I hope you catch many fish with your new rod. Enjoy.
Bob

this post late. but, if anyone else is thinking abot a cane rod i would highly recommend a orvis battenkill rod. the 7’6" 2/2 rod at 3-7/8oz rod is perfect fot a 5wt and can easily be had for well under the $800. i believe orvis produced more of these cane rods than any other they made and so the prices aren’t too high. yet, the quality and durability are excellent! nothing against a new cane rod but for unfamiliar territory a used orvis will be easier to resell and get your money back if your unhappy with the rod. a new rod your going to lose a bit of money after it’s used and you try to resell it. just a thought.

I’m just tickled for you, you’ve made an excellent choice which will serve you very well - and you did it by doing your research. Well done! And your new cane rod will hold it’s value and increase in value over the years as well.

Harry Boyd, you are indeed a gentelmen, i’m not sure other folks here know the kind of person you are, thank you sir for your honesty, If I get the money together for my next cane, it will be for one of yours, a person like you can only make very fine cane. I know others won’t understand my post. That’s ok, I know you will, I understand a fine person like yourself, that puts his pride, money, aside, an answers honestly,( and yes sir Bill T does make a mighty fine cane) that trait I don’t think you’ll find much at all these days, thank you Sir…

Tim

Grubb,
I don’t know the specifics of what you’re talking about, except this: You’re right, Harry is a gentleman and among the finest people you’ll find. The world should have more like him!

Best,
RS

Grubb…I will 2nd what Z had to say & you really owe it to yourself to check with John Channer FIRST !! He is one of the most skilled craftsman in the trade today, IMHO…and John will go to great lengths to accomodate your needs…it only costs an e-mail
I am as pleased with a 7’-3wt as I have ever been!!
