Can nothing be done?

One of Helgans friends hit my notifications today, under the heading of “Re: Admin”. Name is JamesKef. I deleted it immediately. There has to be something that could be done to secure the site a bit better than it is now. It’s all well and good that we can delete this nonsense, notify Char, and whatever, but there was a day and time we never worried about the security of this site. It was secure. We could enjoy it; we could recommend it to friends; we could let our children and grandchildren log on any time, and know they could learn about flyfishing. Is that security totally out of this realm now?

I think that the entire sight would have to be completely reprogrammed.
With the sponsors gone the cost is probably to high.
This is from one of my computer firends.
Rick

The cost relative to the benefit for the FEW who actually contribute/ participate and care, just doesn’t make practical/ economical sense. I noticed the last 10 or so visitors to my name/site are these weirdos …so what ? My millions are still secure :). I just delete them.

Mark

Two of the last ten of my looky loos seem to be weirdos. Oh well. You must be more attractive than me, Marco. Sigh…
Jim

Hey Jim, And you’re accepting that fact graciously too. Well done !

Mark

OK … we’re talking hard core porn videos. There shouldn’t be any weirdos like that on here. And, now, someone has taken to using actual members names (hacked) to send such “messages” to my email address.

Betty, since no else so far has reported that problem you might want to run a scan of your computer in case the source is there. Or you may just be the unlucky first victim here.

Betty, That’s sad that people do that. I haven’t received anything but strung together words and characters that make no sense. I did get some strange emails last year demanding I send $2,000. in bitcoin or they would expose me for being a nasty person. (I’m really not!) I thought it was through this site but turns out it was a phishing scam. I erased them and never heard from them again. Jim

rainbowchaser … that’s the first thing I did. Jim, I have had the jumble of strange characters strung together, and the obvious phishing letters … easily deleted. This last bunch was totally offensive with the porn. Certainly not what I would expect from familiar names on FAOL, where the only access to those names would be on this site. Marco … this could explain why there are so few members still using the site.

Betty,
Your case, where your e-mail was used, is a bit more concerning. I consider “them” simply a nuisance and delete same upon receipt. I hope it costs them enough pennies to eventually discourage them. Occasionally I respond to them with a few words the Jesuits in high school cautioned me it was a sin to utter ( have confessed and have been absolved, hopefully) As far as not participating in the best flyfishing/politics forum , FAOL, for fear of compromising ones’ security, THAT borders on paranoia .

I could not agree more , just delete. However if by mistake , it only takes seconds if that ,
to net you if you hit that link… Delete not respond !
Do not ask me how I know :frowning:

Be safe

Wer’e all wierdos, just in a different way.
