Does anyone in this crowd flyfish in and around the bay and specifically form a kayak? I have fished out of Tillman(sp)island a few times from a charter with friends and have a desire to flyfish for stripers, croakers and whatever else is to be had and want to go self guided. I live within 9 hours of the bay and a weekend trip is always doable. I would like to partner up with someone who knows the ropes and is willing to mentor me. I can cast pretty good and will keep practicing this spring. I have learned that flycasting for trout and bass are one thing but throwing a long line in the wind is quite another story. I just built a nice fast action 8wt. and hope that it can cut it. I know that the early season in MD is when to go out for the big boys. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am updating this post in case anyone has gotten the wrong idea of what it is I’m looking for. I just wanted to know if there any among this forum that regularly fish any part of the bay and if so, what are some of the patterns and techniques used. I have gotten my hands on a launch and access map from the Maryland DNR and like the area around the Bay Bridge. Spring is coming and I can’t wait to try out the new Yak.
I have done considerable fishing on the Bay, but launch at Solomons Island. I have seen guided trips, fly fishing for stripers but this specific area is not an area you would want to yak.
there are alot of tribs on both sides of the bay that offer great rock fishing, call it a striper on the shore and poeple look at ya funny. i only do the shore thing and dont use the flyrod as much as i should.
ive heard of people kayaking to te target ships near kiptopeake, and the islands of the cbbt. also heard some people put off at sandy point and fish the bridge pilings
Thanks for the input, I have been looking at the Sandy Point access pretty hard due to it’s close proximity to the bridge pileings. I also appreciate the “rockfish” reminder, I should have known better they do look at you kind of funny when you call them Sripers . I am going down to fish late in June and I will probably run a recon trip to Sandy Point and scope it out.
