Calgary Alberta small streams

Hey folks I just found out I will be in Calgary alot for business in September. I’m looking to do some small stream fly fishing and was hoping someone might steer me to a decent stream within a 2 hr drive of downtown. Not really looking for huge fish, just some small stream action with a bit of solitude. Email me offline if you don’t want to name names. I practice 100% catch and release.

Thanks

Forget about small Bow tributaries and go fish the famous Bow!
Go downstream to the SE of Calgary and you will be fishing in a half hour or so, not driving 2 hours, and catch some really nice fish.

Here is an excerpt about Calgary Bow River Tributaries from: http://www.brbc.ab.ca/reach4V2.asp

The two major tributaries, Elbow River and Nose Creek, enter Bow River close to the downstream end of the reach. The Elbow River originates in the mountains and foothills southwest of Calgary. It flows past Bragg Creek, through the M.D. of Rocky View and Tsuu T’ina Reserve no. 145 prior to entering the Glenmore Reservoir. At the Glenmore Dam outlet, the Elbow River flows through Calgary and discharges into the Bow River 2 km upstream of the end of the reach.

The Glenmore Reservoir is operated as a storage reservoir for half the City of Calgary’s drinking water supply. It is also used for recreational boating and for flood protection of the densely populated area of the Elbow River floodplain.

Nose Creek drains a primarily agricultural region in the northern portion, beginning at the Town of Crossfield and passing through the Municipal District of Rocky View and the City of Airdrie prior to entering the city of Calgary. It joins the Bow River just upstream of the WID weir. Other small tributaries that once drained directly into the Bow River have been captured in the City of Calgary’s stormwater system, with the exception of a few intermittent streams in riverside parks.

This is my second reply??

I sent you some info Tim.

There is lots on the web about the Bow, a magnificant fishery.

A great 3 part series on the river (and Calgary) here on FAOL: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/feature … an200.html

What the other guys said. Unless you are willing to drive the 3 or so hours to get into the Gap and fish the Southern AB streams, you should most definately focus your efforts on the Bow.

Unfortunatly (or otherwise) the Gap and that area is closed due to extreme fire hazard and hot temperatures.
We got our first rain there since early June just yesterday… only an hours worth. Expect no access to the area until mid September.

Harps

Thanks for all the info guys…i really appreciate it.
