I was looking at that easy caddis fly by Al Campbell, it calls for Punch embroidery yarn which I’m not familiar with material. Is there something that can be substituted for this type of yarn that would work just as well?
Has anyone tried this simple pattern and had any luck with it?

Hi Mike: Look at the bar above this page were it says search. Click on it and type in punch yarn. That should give you info to learn about the yarn. You ask for a substitute.
Take 3 ply polyester baby yarn and use one ply. Pretty close.
Never tried Al’s pattern, but I have caught a lot of fish on punch yarn. Give it a try.

Thanks Tim. I heard references to punch yarn in other patterns but wasn’t sure what is actual was. Did find some nice punch yarn on ebay. Gonna try some and see how it works.
