I bought a pair of Cabelas neoprene waders on sale for around $50. I want to trad them in because they leak nere the boot. Does anyone know if I coud trade them in for a different pair of waders if there the same price? And how long does it take to recieve the waders after you ship yours out?
I just went through my second set of cabela’s guide tech waders, only got 4 outings on both sets before they started to leak on the top inside leg. I called them up and they had them to me in 4 days. I’m currently waiting on a set of simms L2 waders to replace the second pair of waders that leaked, I’m done with Cabela’s waders, hopefully the simms are more reliable.
They should replace them. I’ve never had a problem with Cabela’s for returns. I had a similar situation like nsonthefly did with 2 pair of Cabela’s breathables. Four outtings and that was it. I purchased a pair of Simm’s Guideweights after that. Year three and they’re still going.
For those whoe exchanged the waders, were you able to keep the ones you bought and send them after you received the ones they sent?
I talked to a customer service rep and she barely told me anything, she didn’t answer any of my questions. I know Cabelas is very customer friendly but it was akward she couldn’t, or wouldn’t answer my questions.
I met a guy the other day on the mugger mover (tram) in downtown Detroit, he was selling watches. I said I didn’t need a watch but a pair of fishing waders was on my list. He said, it was my lucky day. He had two gallons of bear grease. He said, smear on feet, ankles, calves and waist, you can then done your Carharts and you are good to go. I am waiting in anticipation for first chance to try out my $32.00 bargin.
I also have a set of Cabela’s Neoprene, so far so good.
I learn more about the world while talking to myself when fishing alone
On more than one occasion I have charged the replacement item on my credit card ( order placed with the rep who is taking the return) and returned the faulty item for credit on my card. I think it was a Cabellas rep who recomended it to me.
AgMD
When I called them to get a new pair sent out the woman said she would charge my credit card till they recieved the faulty waders. I’m currently waiting for my simms to arrive, but I’m not shipping the old waders till the new ones show. Just means it will take longer to recieve credit. I’m not going without a pair of waders peak season.
I dunno JC. I recently agonized over a new waders purchase a lot more than I should have. Checked the various boards for opinions. Did all the research I could. Ended up concluding that I just couldn’t justify 2+X more for the Simms.
Not arguing with those who can and have. I just couldn’t for myself. I’ve seen plenty of foks who just plain swear by them, but also enough who didn’t that I didn’t feel comfortable risking the extra bucks.
So I’m now in my second pair of Cabela’s breathables. Picked up some hippers with part of the cash I “saved”.
If I end up wishing I’d spent the bucks for the Simms, I’ll gladly report it here. But, so far, so good.
Hi all. My experience last year exchanging leaky waders with Cabelas couldn’t have been better. They are Hodgmans, and I got an immediate RTA on the phone, and I shipped them back UPS. In less than one week I had a brand new replacement pair, and about a week after that I got a full refund of the return freight. They were slightly out of warranty, but Cabelas stood behind them. I am now experiencing some problems in the same area with the replacement pair, but I’m not going to abuse Cabelas and will patch them. I won’t buy Hodgmans again, and if I can pop for them will probably go with Simms in the future.
Good fishing,
Bob
Fish4life, I sent mine back for immediate exchange, so I don’t know if they’ll just send you another pair…I kind of doubt it.
Bobc, ditto on the Hodgeman’s, they were terrible. They use to be such a great company. I’ve heard that Cabela’s waders and Hodgeman’s are both made by the same company.
I have four pairs of cabelas waders
The boot-foot breathables are a year old, the others have stood up to the test of time
They are a good value
My 5 mil neoprenes are the oldest, around 12 years.
When they leak, I fix them
Not a problem
Some are hammering on Hodgeman. I purchased several pair of waders over the years, 1969 through 1989, mostly for duck hunting and to fish for steelhead in Oregon. They came with a patch kit…duh. They leaked, I patched them. Does the angler of today really exspect everything will be 100% perfect? You are buying a value in Cabela’s. An old retail saying. You can have any two of the following.
Price - Quality - Delivery. In short, if you want it now, and want quality, it will cost you (Simms). If you want it now and want price (Cabela’s) If you want quality and want price …it may take forever to find it, in otherwords, no one makes it. IMO, live with it, we are fortunate today that most suppliers stand behind their product.

Jonezee, Its kind of hard to fix the leak when its leaking in both legs and I can barely tell where it is leaking from. Plus they aren’t even the right size, there 9 talls, I need 9 regulars.
I too just noticed a slight leak in my cabelas neoprene waders. They do the job and I dont get very wet but I am going to try and return them. Thanks for asking this question it gives me some good input
Well, at least Cabela’s will stand behind the product and we all know this isn’t the first time with leaky waders for them. You would think they would get tired of the hassle or else they must chalk it up to “doing business” Yes, proper fit means a lot, Cabela’s took extra time and care when fitting me, my opinion they wanted to make sure I was getting what I paid for. Good luck all, Jonezee
I have pair of Hodgeman breathables that are a couple of years old…had a leak in the foot that I thought I had patched(tiny pin hole in the toe area). Last outing still had some leakage somewhere…
It sounds like almost any brand of waders seem to have their problems sooner or later…most of us however prefer later…
