Cabelas Sweetwater combo!!!

I need an opinion on a buying decision. Cabelas is good i here and i want some personal opinions.

I have one and it is great. You know i have caught hundreds of fish on it.

Isn’t that outfit intended for, as the name implies, freshwater use? How well will that reel stand up to saltwater. I believe it’s painted cast aluminum. And it’s a 6 wt which is on the light side for saltwater.

I agree with flyfisherjoe-

For most coastal/saltwater fishing you are going to occasionally be throwing rather large flies and/or fishing in high wind. A 8 weight on up might be a little more versatile. For those calm mornings on the flats when the water looks like glass and the fish demand a super sensitive presentation, the 6 weight can rock.

Also I would worry about the corrosion of the reel. It will require a very high level of maintenance to stay in good working order. I have a Cabela’s reel that is great for my freshwater fishing but I would not be caught dead using it in the salt- the reel would be destroyed in no time.

Thanks for your replies all. To some extent it’s a starting rod for me as a begginner. I fish both fresh and salt. I’m planning on getting a heavier weight after i buy this one. Probably 7/8 wt. that’ll be my saltwater user.
Thanks again for your replies.
