Cabela’s has their fiberglass fly rods on sale again. I just purchased a 7’6" 5/6 weight 3 piece CGR that comes with a nice Cabela’s tube for $64.99 + tax also a Prestige Plus reel for $19.88 + tax from their Bargain Cave. Got the UPS shipping on all items for free to my door. $89.97 for a new rod and reel delivered seems pretty fair to me. They sent me that flyer and I deliberated. It’s such a great price, but I already have built a 5, a 4, and am currently wrapping a 1 wt, so I can’t justify it. Please do post your review. I’m curious about those!
Their lines are also on sale for 40% off. The Prestige Plus is a really good line.
They put them on sale around all of the major holiday too so perhaps by then I will get a chance to post a review for you. I had to pay taxes to the federal government again this year or I would have also bought one of the prime rods. I also like their Prestige Plus lines but I scored an Aiflo Ridgeline WF5F on eBay brand new for less than $35 bucks delivered. Also got Rio backing cheap off of Amazon.
I had a little time between appointments yesterday with the BPS about half way between, so I stopped in. There was a new rack full of Fenwick’s new glass fly rod in the fly shop. In the past I have not been seen lusting after fishing rods, but this is a really sweet rod from what I could tell by the weight and a midair flex without a line. They are priced around $200 at BPS.
Hope your luck with Bass Pro Shop is better than mine. The Harrisburg, Pa. store treats me okay but their online customer service just plain stinks. That is a good price for that rod and here it is at Cabela’s:
Too bad you can’t check out one of the Cabela’s prime fiberglass rods. I think you might be lusting after that one piece rod too. If you do then that would put me in good company with you. That will be my next purchase as they have no ferrule dead spots and they really do bend in a perfect arch from the tip top to the end of the blank in the handle. Rambling on a bit here but do you know if any of the sponsors of FAOL sell fiberglass rods?
Actually, a little luck is going to put me about 15 miles south of the Cabela’s that is on the other side of Atlanta from me. I hope to run up and check out the rod.
BTW, the guys in the BPS here are a good bunch. They always ask if they can help me and tell them, “No thanks, I’m just shop lifting.” They stay close by and chat while I look around.
