Beautiful rod and pic. Must be a great camera…what is the camera?

Don’t mind at all. Purchased them from Hook & Hackle several months back. This was during the switch in owners, and just after people began to raise prices claiming the cost of graphite from overseas had gone up drastically. They were web specials only. After purchasing other things from H & H I began to get e-mails from them about special sales. This was one of those specials. I think I ended up with 4 complete kits. I doubt they are available now…especially since everyone stopped making 3 piece rods. However, I might sell you a kit or two…just for what I paid plus shipping. I think I have taken a couple out of the original boxes, have not built them but no box. Then think I have a couple still in original boxes. I could take a pic with my camera and e-mail it to you. I am not activily seeking to sell them. But if you have a strong desire for a couple I could part with them.
The camera is a Nikon cool pix 2100 has Macro for 3x zoom lens. Great for taking a picture of small trout flies, or custom cross wraps.
That is one heck of a good photograph. The entire picture is in focus and great resolution. Wow what a good picture. Thanks for the answer.

I have a Rainshadow 9’ 4 wt. and I love it. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one.
Does DanCraft sell anything besides 4-piece fly rods? I’m looking for a 9’ 5wt. blank in 2 pieces. I’ve heard nothing but good things about their blanks.
They only have the 1wt, 2wt & 3wt in 2-piece in the Signature III Series http://www.dancraftent.com/category/ind … 16&show=15 I have the 1wt and love it to death. It’s fast, and I had to overline it to 3wt for my casting style.
I own (4) 4-piece rods and (1) 7-piece rod. They all cast and fish beautifully. and I can carry them all on the plane when I travel,

I’m kind of afraid of 4-piece rods. I had a bad experience with one; it kept coming apart.
Did you put parafin on it first?

One bad experience should not deter you from building or buying 4-piece rods. If I walked away from every first bad experience without trying it from a different angle or at a different time, I would have lost out on many great opportunities in life. You should see my first flies and my first rod. They are nothing to look at, but they show me how I have improved over time and with more practice.
One of the things I teach in casting classes is to frequently check to make sure your rod sections are tight and your reel seat nut is tight as well. If you cast a lot, they can/will loosen up as the day goes on. I was taught that early on in my fly fishing experience.

Seriously, there is nothing wrong with multi-piece rods if they are built and maintained properly. I own and use 2 to 7-piece rods without problems. I have two Cabelas 4-piece rods and the others are all my own builds. Yes, they all loosen up at about the half way point thru the day, but my 2-piece rods do the same if I’m fishing strong. Also, I don’t jam the pieces together so tight that they are difficult to take apart. Reasonable care will yield reasonable results.

IMO, there would be nothing wrong with a Cabela’s rod kit for a beginner interested in building a rod, but I would also recommend that you perhaps start off with a cheaper kit rather than a SAGE blank. Our sponsors here offer some great products and perhaps it might benefit you to check them out before you commit to the Cabelas kit. Starting out can be rather confusing (we all were at one time!), but doing the research using the rod building info here on FAOL will get you well on your way to producing a pretty good rod. Whatever you choose to do, I wish you success on your first build. The best tip I can offer is keep everything clean, clean, clean and take one step at a time. Never try to rush thru each step or look out! :lol:
