C. B. C. ...

… as in Caddis By Committee.

I didn’t have much occasion to fish smaller caddis patterns last year, but I’m hoping I’ll have more opportunities this year.

So here is a new, yet untested pattern with contributions from the X-Caddis, a Henry’s Fork Caddis, and with - golly, what else - a twist of my own.

Incorporate one half strand of antron shuck material in an FEB consisting of one full strand of antron in the desired body color plus a strand of .5 mm StretchMagic.

Secure the FEB to a 2X short dry fly hook …

… and trim the waste and the shuck to the desired length.

Tie in a deer hair wing.

Tie in and wrap a grizzly hackle.

Inspect from the fishies’ point of view.

I did fish a similar pattern, without the incorporated shuck, a couple times last year with good results. Considering the success I’ve had with a variety of flies based on FEBs with and without incorporated tails or shucks, I have a lot of confidence in this pattern.

Looks interesting, John. Keep us posted on how it performs!

… I think I heard that you like CDC, Hans.

Here you go …

… a CDC CBC. About a size 20 in standard dry fly hook terms. Tied on a size 22 Dai-Riki 125 which is a 2X short hook.

This one took a half strand of antron and one smallish CDC feather. Swept back the CDC fibers part way down the stem, incorporated the tip of the CDC feather in the FEB, secured the mess to the hook, trimmed out the antron waste, and used the rest of the feather for the wing. Had some fibers in front that could have gone for legs, but I didn’t care for the look so I trimmed them off.

I know, I know - but it’s practically snowing around here, so what’s a guy gonna do ??

Actually, once you get a mind set about this FEB thing, it’s really interesting what you can do with it.

John

That is a good looking fly, thanks for posting.
