Thanks Guys, I’ve got a pretty good file on KA dyeing and in it an article from Fly Tier’s Bench where Ian Forbes says …“a mixture of three parts green to one part red and one part orange makes a deep,orange brown.”

I was hoping that would be a burnt orange but it doesn’t do it for me…I’m hoping some one has a formula.

Normand, I did the google and there is some new stuff since I looked before but I’m not finding the formula.

try a whole pack of orange and about 1/3 of red koolaid it works for me you can add more orange or red to get the right darkness you are looking for let me know how you make out with it. davidm

David…during the above post I had 3 parts of orange with one part of green and now have gotten a pretty rich brown…I’ll give the red a try…but it may be awhile…gotta go regrip my golf clubs:roll:

Incidently I’m doing rabbit strips…

I’m not sure you can get all colors from Kool-Aid, it comes in a limited choice of pre-mixed colors, not pure shades. Here is a sample of what I did with RIT dyes, the recipe is 3 cup hot water + 1 Tblspoon vinegar + the liquid dye per recipe…enough for a large yogart tub. The attached samples are on swatches of near white ‘furry foam’.

orange = 2 tsp TANGERINE

burn orange = 1/2 tsp GOLDEN YELLOW, 1/2 tsp SCARLET, 1/2 tsp TAN

rust = 1 tsp TANGERINE, 1/2 tsp COACO BROWN
