I’d like to tie in a piece of “shock gum” or bungee in between my line and leader, but the “stretchiness” of the bungee keeps it from taking a knot. Has anybody used this and have a method for attaching it?
Lefty Kreh describes a shock gum knot in one of his books. Try googling that and see if you can find it. If you have no luck I can scan the page and e-mail you but I don’t want to duplicate copyright material here.
here’s a video
I tried using the shock gum material about 15 years ago, so my memory of it is a bit dim. I do remember I didn’t like it very much after fishing with it for a few times. I sort of remember maybe using a blood knot type deal. The shock gum side of the knot may have only been a single overhand knot.
This was about the same time I started fishing furled leaders, I found the inherent stretch of a furl leader provided the same tippet protection in a much more fishable format.
Wish my memory worked better regarding the actual knot.
Scroll down a little its called the double jam knot… Craig Mathews was the guy that taught me about the use of shock gum
added to a leader… His method for tying it in has never failed me yet!
Be safe
