I finally finished my st.croix rod. I got the blank from a member on this board. It was my first rod, so it took a whole lot of time planning things out and learning. I am very pleased with the rod, although it’s not perfect.
Looks perfect enough to me. Way to go. I never met a fish that cared one way or the other about the rod. Welcome to the addiction. So, what’s your next project? :rolleyes:
That is a nice first rod, Ken. My first wasn’t perfect, but it casts nice and I’ll never get rid of it. I hope you keep it for a long time and remember the feeling of building your first rod every time you take it out fishing.
I see you went with 2 stripping guides…interesting choice…what’s your reasoning?
From what I can tell, your wraps look excellent, great job! Also, the reel seat looks like it definitely matches the rod. Good eye for detail, many “first rods” I’ve seen look either mismatched or overwrought, but I think you hit it pretty good.
That SCII blank…how’s it feel? Mod-fast?
Nicely done Ken;
Your first build is always something special. Enjoy it for many years.
Very nice… I learn something every time. I gave my first build away years ago, but i loved it. Haven’t built a rod I thought was perfect yet, but some others say they are.
I can always see some kinda flaw… don’t matter… I really enjoy the build…Welcome to the club…ModocDan
My next project will be on repairing a monty rod.
In a way I like the look of two stripping guides on the same rod piece. Also, all my other rods have two stripping guides. I say the rod’s a bit on the mid-flex side. I used single foot guides, so the action of the original blank didn’t change a whole lot. I still haven’t fished the rod yet, so I can’t tell you exactly how the rod feels.
Thanks for the coments.
