Once. First and only time was last April, just before the grannoms. Fished hard all day without so much as a bite. A few friends from out that way insist that was a fluke and I’ve gotta come back and try it again, but unless I’m already planning on being in the area, I don’t have much interest in returning anytime soon.
EDIT: Adding in the pics to this post as well, so they’re on the current page:
Tied up these last night…not perfect, but I’m pleased overall. Tied on Partridge M, size 2.
Really dropped the ball on that last rib…not sure where my brain was on that one. Other than that, the silver calftail doesn’t show up very well, perhaps dun may have been a better choice…
Very pleased with the body, somewhat less thrilled with the hackle. I like the pale olive calf tail too. On the next one, I think I’ll just tie in some rooster neck fibers as a beard, the hen I used here just isn’t cutting it. Also, went a bit tight on the bucktail and ended up with some flare that I couldn’t fix.
My favorite of this group. The first wrap of the rib is a touch catty-wompus, but its nothing I’ll lose sleep over at this point. Pleased with head & hackle. Again, on the next one I’ll make wing changes…probably white/orange/pink or white/yellow/pink. Just dont like the black bear on this fly. Still, I’m happy with the way it turned out, and the way the wing laid low for me.
Wow, those are really good! I really like the color combinations you’ve chosen. I can’t even go out on a limb and say “some day I’ll be able to tie that good”!
