I just started tying these patterns this year and love them. I’m having trouble getting the antron “bubble” to look good though. The trout don’t seem to mind their shabbyness, but i would feel better if they were formed a little better. Anyone care to share some tips on how they tie these things?
thanks
Jeff
there are a number of approached to this.
if yer thread and material conrol are solid place the bunch above the hook, tie it in and spin it.
other wise work it a quarter at a time and don’t be afraid to use yer bobbin to to separate and place the fibers.
you could go top and bottom an get the same thing.
practice and you’ll eventually get it.
Another thing you could try, is to use sparkle emerger yarn. It seems to make a better bubble for me. You can buy it from www.feather-craft.com.

Thanks for the replys, just one question. Is this sparkle emerger yarn different than regular sparkle yarn? The stuff that is twisted in 3 strands.
Jeff
littlej, Just exactly what type of Antron yarn are you useing ?
Jim
LittleJ,
I don’t know what sparkle emerger yarn is, but I use regular sparkle yarn for my caddis sparkle emergers. I just unwind the yarn and comb it out to straighten and remove the short strands. Works like a charm.

The sparkle emerger yarn is not twisted at all. I think it is probably different from what you are using. Sparkle emerger yarn is made by Hareline Dubbing Inc. It only cost $2.25 and is enough for thousands of flies.
