Brown Drake Emerger SBS

Found this on Troutnut; looks like a combination Last Chance Emerger and Hairwing Dun. Change color/size to suit your needs.

hook - Dai Riki 280 #10
thread - UTC 140 tan
tail - woodduck
shuck - Congo Hair beige
rib - Uni-Stretch brown
abdomen - dubbing tan
thorax - dubbing pale yellow
hackle - grizzly
wing - deer hair

Part 1

mash barb, start thread at 2/3 mark; wrap to point above barb

measure (gap width past bend) some woodduck fibers; tie in/trim

tie in some CH on top of tail; trim

tie in rib

dub thread/dub tapered abdomen to 2/3 mark

counterwrap rib; tie off/trim

tie in hackle (did it by the tip just to see how it’d look; I was pretty happy with the swept-back effect so I’ll probably keep it this way for the next batch)

Part 2

dub thorax; leave about 1 eye width up front for the wing

run scissors blade back along the top half of the hackle quill to help fold the fibers back; wrap hackle, tie off/trim

clean, stack, measure (tips to base of tail) a clump of deer hair

trim to length, tie in, cover butts with thread, whip finish, SHHAN

trim out hackle underneath (optional)
