Initially I said I’d leave this open until the Ides of March. It appears to have settled down. So, I’ll auction the thing down: This is going once!
sound slike you’ve arrived at a killer color combo gig. I’ll have to tie some of those up and give them a shot. yeah I’ll add the junglecock nails as well. gotta use them somewheres.
I cheat and use the Ti-Rite imitation junglecock eyes. They are plastic, with a laser etched JC eye design on them. They appear to be virtually indestructable.
I used one of these flies on the trout stream this morning. I caught 3 BIG rainbows (2-3 lbs each), 1 Brown that was about 3 lbs. (huge for around here), a 4 SM Bass, all very respectable sized. All this in about 1-1/2 hours. I floated down the Toccoa in my Yak.
I think it is going to work.
Semper Fi!
Here is a picture of what I am sending. This one is a bit chewed up because it has caught something like 20 fish in two days. The ones I am sending (unused) are even better looking.

Let me know when we’re closed. I’ve got 6 ready to mail right now.

I’ll tie the Honey Blonde, if that counts.
Tail: Yellow
Body: Gold
Wing: Yellow
or
Tail: White
Body: Gold
Wing: Yellow
Depending on which reference cited. I’ll try both and see which I like best.
Okay, great. We have another one in Sagittarius62! So, that said, going twice ?
JGW
Can I get in with a black/white one (I call it the Michael Jackson), and for the white can I use bucktail.
Thanks,
JZ
Your in JZ. BTW, it’s your fly. Use whatever you wish.
Okay, going three! If no new tyers by Sunday we’ll close the swap. Thanks to everyone who has come aboard. JGW
So far they are turning out great, except my thread is horrible and is fraying when i tie my double half hitch(can’t tie whip finish, it is like… impossible left handed). And because i am left handed, they look better when they are held opposite of the way a right handed vice would hold a vice. But all is well, they meet my criteria: look good-good motion-catch fish(already tried one out, cought a 2 lb. raimbow!

Just read this pos. I have to do thisits to easy i will come up with something in a day Hopefully its not going three times ![]()

We have two things working for us here: We have room and we have time. Consider yourself in the swap. JGW
How many are we up to now?
I was on a another post talking about catching catfish on a fly-rod. It’s sort of a hobby of mine. Just for beans, this afternoon, I tried my Mara Blonde pattern for catfish, and to be fair, I did not go to the tail races, but in the lake proper. And I used the same one pictured that has already caught more than 20 fish. All I did was spray it with Shad Smelly Jelly and twitch it slowly along the bottom in <10’ of water, along the rip raps. This is what happened in 10 minutes.

It took me about 4 minutes to get him in, at which time I had a small crowd of spectators. I had an Army Corps of Engineers Officer, take this picture with my camera (he knows how to use it much better than I). He wants to submit it for a State Line Class Record. I don’t think fly lines qualify for this, but I guess we’ll see. In 2 hours of fishing, I caught 7 more catfish and 3 stripers. All were smaller than this one. And the fly is still fishable!

Anyway, I believe I’ve stumbled on another ‘can’t fail’ pattern!
I will be tying a very colorful Mara-blond type fly. At least 4 colors. waiting for some new stuff to arrive before i decide on the actual color combination.
that catfish is sick.
I also enjoy flyrodding for cats, but I admit it’s usuall an accident when I catch one.
I’m guessing you may have stumbled onto a new go-to fly.
how many do we need to tie now? I may need to go buy some marabou…

Mr. Blur: nine tyers are in the final swap. That is, though, a fine cat. JGW
Beautiful catfish, what river was that on?
It wasn’t out of a river. It was out of Carters Lake in(or near) Ranger, Ga. The Coosawatie River does run out of it very near where I caught this one. I was on the lake side of the dam, along some rip raps. The spillway (where I usually fish) is just on the other side of the dam.

The flies are in the mail! 8)
White43,
My flies are in the mail with delivery confirmation. By the way, I tied a Purple and White Mara. The extras are for you. Thanks for hosting the swap.
Cheers,
Mike
