Does anyone know how to translate the british hook sizes to those used in the USA? I’ve been reading Skues and Sawyer on nymphs and have no idea what size the O, OO, 1, 2 hooks they refer to are. Separation by a common language!

The first column is the old number, the second column is the new (American) number.

Trouts don’t live in ugly places
Betty,
The (to me) amusing part is that the “new” and “old” are actually the other way round.
17, 16, 15, etc are the “old” scale (or Redditch scale), as they were around and in use before the “new” 000, 00, 0,1, etc scale (or Pennell scale) was introduced.
I guess general concensus was that the “old” scale was the better one and it was re-instated, and has been in use to this day.
Cheers,
Hans W
