Reversed grizzly hackle orientation to get a more swept-back appearance. Tied here as a Flav; change color/size to suit your needs.
hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - MFC 8/0 dark olive
tail - partridge
rib - Uni-stretch yellow
body - dubbing olive
hackle - grizzly dyed olive/starling (original calls for jackdaw)
Part 1
mash barb, start thread; tie in rib, wrap to bend

measure (not quite shank length) some partridge fibers; tie in


dub thread/dub body


counterwrap rib; tie off/trim


tie in hackle by tip (run scissors blade back along top side)

wrap hackle, stroking fibers back; tie off/trim

Part 2
gather hackle fibers on top of (inverted) fly; cover with thread wraps


tie in starling (2 used here) by tip

wrap hackle; tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN



trim out hackle underneath (optional)

What do you do with all the patterns you tie? Are they placed in a shadow box?

Nothing that fancy. I put them into a plastic food storage container on the tying table; when it fills up they get sorted and put in fly boxes.
