My wife and I will be going to Banff Springs and Lake Louise the first week in October. Can anyone recommend some outfitters to contact for a float trip on the Bow while we are in the vicinity. Any other information on the fishing this time of year would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have not fished the Bow – however, a couple of years ago I called and spoke to one of the shops there. I just googled Bow River and Calgary Fly shops – came up with several hits.
Good luck – I will be following this post with interest as I want to fish the area – perhaps next fall.
While I don’t know of any specific guides to direct you to, I’d say check in Canmore. It is only 10-15 minutes away from your hotel (Bannf Springs-HOLY ****, am I jealous!). There are a lot of guides and shops in Canmore. Good luck. Most beautiful place on earth.
If your staying in Banff/Lake Louise you’ll want to decide what kind of a float your after as you’ll be near the “Upper” section of the bow. It is an awesome scenic float that will provide you ok trout fishing. However, the lower sections downstream of Calgary are your best bet for large Brown’s and Rainbows.
For the Upper Bow you should contact Don at http://www.alpineanglers.com, keeping in mind that October could be a little late if it is too cold and/or snowing, the weather is pretty unpredictable at that time. Don could give you more specifics though.
For the lower Bow I would recommend Terry Johnson at Fishtales in Calgary, http://www.fishtales.com.
I tried the link to fishtales but got nothing. Would you happen to have access to a phone number I could call? I am interested in floating the lower Bow. Thanks for the help.
