Just got my order in today from these guys, http://www.identi-tape.com/deco-holo.html, and it looks great! I bought 4 rolls for $5 each. I got gold, silver, and chartruese in the prismatic and pink in the holographic. These are going to make some fine coastal spoons for tailing redfish! Im using a cross between these two recipes: http://www.geocities.com/clinscott_pfl/BBspoon.html and this one http://www.nwmangum.com/spoonfly/index.html
Should work great!
I often use silver chrome adhesive-backed tape under the EZ Body tubing for some shad patterns. Really adds good flash!
Dave,
They make an ‘aluminum’ tape for ducting work that’sthat available at any hardware store…shiny silver color, sticks strong, inexpensive, looks great under any of the braids…
It’s become my ‘go to’ underlayment for shads and such…and it’s cheap :).
Good supplier, thanks for sharing! I’ve been looking for this stuff at a reasonable price for a while for crease flies.
Buddy,
I’ve also got some lead tape I’ve used like what you are doing with it. It helps give weight and shape to the tube bodies, and is adhesive on one side.
I’m not familiar with the stuff you mention, but it sounds interesting. Is the “aluminum tape” actually made of metal?
Dave,
Yes, it’s a thin skin of aluminum with an adhesive back. I like it because it’s shiny and doesn’t add all that much weight. I got mine at Ace.

All,
I have found something at Joanns ETC that really works, at least on stocker Rainbows. The last time I was in TN, I tied up a bunch of small woolly buggers and used Sulky Holoshimmer thread for the tails of the WBs. The stockers really liked these WBs. It is very durable and I had one WB that I caught over 20 fish on. The body was in shreds but the Holoshimmer looked like new.
The thread comes in a variety of holographic colors and you can mix various colors - gold and green to get an even more unusual impact. I own nine different varieties of this thread.
Just remember, Joanns has coupons each week and occassionally they put threads like this on sale at 40% off.
Sounds interesting so I did a google…

The Sulky holoshimmer threads are really fun to play around with…basically flash-a-bou on a spool…I like the pearl for lots of stuff, and the green and blue added in for interesting looks…
An ‘easy’ method to convert it to lengths for tails/wings:
Make a cutting jig…Find or cut a stiff material (I use thin cardboard) to a width that matches the length of the material you want…wrap the material around the jig, then make ONE cut with a razor blade and you get the proper length in as many pieces as you want to wrap around the jig…you can wrap multiple colors at the same time, thus ‘mixing’ it…putting a piece of tape (I use that blue painters tape so it peals off easier) across the material then making the cut through that gives you a conveninet ‘holder’ for the stuff and keeps it from going everywhere and getting misaligned…
I always tie this stuff in my the middle and then fold it back…less likely to pull out that way…
AND, for those of you that havent’ seen these, Joann’s sells a ‘bobbin winder’ that folks use to wind embrodiery thread and floss around those little flat plastic ‘floss bobbins’…basically a clip to hold the bobbin with a crank…the whole unit has a clamp to hold it to a table or box, whatever, while you use it. They cost less than $5. You can put your ‘jig’ into this thing and then ‘wind on’ the thread…or clamp the jig in the jaws of your rotary vise…makes it easier to do all this if you have a way to rotate the jig.
