Boise, ID with my Kid...Suggestions?

This sent from Boise,

I am in town for a week with my kids. With the high water in the mtns., I am looking for a place around here to fish with my 7 yr old (and 2 yr old if poss) and actually have a shot at catching something. Don’t wanna have to fish the Park Center Ponds again, but will if that is the best around. Last 2 times we have tried it, nothing but small (3-4 in) bass and smaller bluegill. Any suggestions?

The Boise River might be fishable. Can be great for big trout and hard fighting White Fish

the boise is running high and wild. Park center ponds is bad and always will be. try horseshue bend pond. there are a loit of ponds in the area as well. Arrowrock res is a big body of water but the damn is always good for some big trout and hybreds. Nampa ponds at the fish and game is good as well. lots of trout and bass and bluegill. check at the local fish and game office they will have some good recommendations.

Thanks harleybob…I was hoping you would give me your take. Will try one of them on Wed, when my license starts.

I am heading for salmon or I would help you out more. I usually have wed off. Be gone till next wed chasing cuts and bows in some high mountain lakes and streams. Good luck to you and hope you enjoy this part of gods country. by the way if you call 208-284-2886 I am not leaving until tomarrow and would be pleased to speak with you. BOB

Just thought of this Don’t know your schedule or anything but if you take 55 towards banks and follow it up to smiths ferry you turn left at smiths ferry and go 1 mile up the road and you will see a sign that says public access. Turn left on this road and folow it all the way in till you come to the parking lot. Word of warning this is a one lane road that is dirt and rough. You can take a car down it but be careful. From the parking lot walk about 100 yards into the lake. fish from the damn or close to it. full of planters and brookies. If you go say hello to the eagle for me. they planted 15oo trout in this little 2 acre lake. It is called tripod resivoir. Great place to teach the kids how to fish. wish I had a dime for everyone I taught to fly fish out of a tube up there. It is about 60 miles from downtown boise

Thanks for the info HB… will use it next time. I took him to the Nampa Hatchery pond on the Free fishing day on Saturday. He caught a couple of nice trout, and my 2 yr old caught one too. I didn’t get your message until too late, but will pass it on to my father in law. Will definately call you next time. If you are ever in the Sacramento Region, PM me and I will send you my phone.
