Boa yarn Swap

I have a roll of black boa yarn, the size that goes really well on a #10 hook. Actually I have quite a lot of it! One three dollar bundle is far more than enough.

Anybody have some other colors and be willing to trade me for some black? I was thinking that 24" sections might be good lengths to work in.

Of course its simple to go to Wally World and buy more but I figured, what the heck, it’d be a way to kill some time.

Anybody interested?

  3. littlebrook - mallard - received

  4. Bubba Elwood Gump Esq - eyelash “purple shiney” - received

  5. MOturkE - white - received

Robin, I have an entire skein of black also. I would be interested in swapping some of it in lengths for other colors also so I don’t have to buy more entire skeins of other colors.

hey Robert,

I have also posted on TFR here in Texas and it seems that everyone who has responded so far has a skein of black

Hope some folks with other colors show up.

Maybe if this went to the Fly Swap Forum as a boa yarn material swap it would get more takers, Robin.

“Flip a fly”

Just bought black today. I have white and it never enticed so much as a nibble. I also looked at the olive, called mallardand gray called ostrich on the labels, but I didn’t get any.

I tied the white with red yarn both with and without a bead head, but nothing happened on either of them. Go figure…

Nada with the white yarn huh? Well, I wonder how that color might fare in waters populated with shad or other light-colored baitfish?

If you all would take the time to look at the FOTW and use the colors you have, you might just be surprised what you would catch! Hate to have to brag on my own fly, but, I know I have tried it and have had great success with bluegill, largemouth bass, trout, red ear and one carp! At least it has worked here in my local river. I have it tied in the 2-tone brown and also in black. I will just have to pick up some of the white boa yarn and try that color which I think, in the pattern I have, it will be a great baitfish imitation.

Just a suggestion and my opinion.

Warren

The boa yarn is like every other fly we have. Some of the colors work better than others at any given time. If fish are not hitting a fly after about 10 casts then I am changing the fly.

I have tried the boa yarn fly in 11 colors so far and all have caught fish at one time or another.
Folks sent me samples of a few of those colors.

Rick

I sure hope that some other tyers hop on here with their various colors of boao yarn. If not, I am gonna wind up with the most massive collection of boa yarn outside a Joanns store

I picked up an interesting color of Boa Yarn today. Mallard.

If fishing was crack, I’d be a crack maniac

Checked the Swap page and found nothing about this so I presume this is the place to sign up for the Boa Yarn Swap. I have an unopened package of the Mallard color and would be delighted to swap some for Black and/or White - or other colors. I haven’t used any yet so I can’t give any reports.
Whats the procedure to get involved in this swap? What lengths are we swapping? Who’s the swapmeister? Might that be Dr. Rhynne? Need some snail mail addresses. Whussup?

Bill
(Yeah, brookies are my favorites but blugills are next in desireability.)

hello there littlebrook,

I had not thought of running it like a regular swap with one meister. But here goes as that makes the most sense.

I have dibs on black as I started this whole mess and that’s the skein that I have

Bernat has thirty colors of boa yarn so we have that much room. But lets limit it to ten.

First ten in get to swap. No repeating colors so if somebody else posts a color then you’d need to pick something else.

I will start the list back in the original post. Email me to let me know if you are in. How about 24" of yarn? That is not set in stone, give me your feedback on how much to swap. It’ll be X quantity of your yarn times nine.

rrhyne… Put me down for “Tweety Bird”. It’s kind of a ‘carnival’ mix. Orangeish - pinkish -(are those words?) and yellow.

Man, I’m hoping someone else has something besides black and mallard…

We should probably all move this one over to the swap board. Whadayathink?

Robin,

I’ve got most a a roll of ‘Phoenix’ - a sort of rust color. I bought it to do some crawfish imitations. I’d be willing to part with some, but already have both black and white. Just send me your address and I’ll send you some. My email is in my profile.

HideHunter
Gotcha down on the list.

MOturkE
Good point, I’ll see if LF can lock this and point folks to the swap board. Meanwhile, keep watching here. When it goes away we’ll know its moved. Just to confirm, are you in for the swap?

TxEngr

thanks for your kind offer, please check your mail.

If any of you boa yarners want to sign up please email me (check my profile and signature). That’ll keep the thread cleaned up and I’ll update as I get the requests. We’ll stop at ten.

rr,

You can copy the whole thread…delete this whole thread as the originator …and then paste the whole thing in a new thread on the swap forum…

Maybe do the deleting after you see the transfer was successful…

BTW…recently there were BOA swaps…seems there’s room for another…

Thanks Robin,
Yes, since no one’s offerred the Mallard yet, I’ll be happy to do it. I considered suggesting a longer length of the yarn but decided against it. Whatever the swapmeister suggests is fine with me.
Thanks again.

Bill

Name indicates where I fish and for what I fish.

Well the only colors of Boa yarn I have are Raven and Mallard. zi also have another type made by yarn Bee. Dunno if it is eyelash yarn but it has long silky fibers. I have white and really dark shiney purple in this color,
