I’ve got the blank and components ordered from H&H for my brothers ‘Dress Blues’ rod. Thank you to everyone for your earlier suggestions. You really have made this process a lot easier than I thought it would be. I imagine I"ll be having a few more questions as I get going on it, so consider yourselves warned, lol.

The blank is a dark blue, I’ll have a gold stripping guide with gold snake guides, and a gold reel seat (I asked if they had a white reel seat, but they didn’t). The wraps will be dark blue with red and metallic gold accents. I’m going to use his rank for the alignment dots, there’s a website that has them as small stickers, and a gold Eagle, Globe and Anchor button for the but cap. I’d like to get a little white on there somehow, maybe I’ll wrap the hook keeper with white thread with the gold accents, and then I’ll do the writing in white.
It’s a 6’ 6" two piece 2wt…for fishing nymphs at Bennet, Tim.

That sounds good. If you are doing the writing by weaving the letters then I might suggest using the dark blue and weave the letters in white with a gold trim at both ends.
(I asked if they had a white reel seat, but they didn’t).
If you want a white reel seat you could always go with an acrylic insert, they come in white http://www.woodpenpro.com/acrylic_pen_blanks/less_than_1_inch_diameter.html

Thanks for the info on the acrylic inserts. I looked around a little, but since I don’t know what the reel seat looks like I’ll wait unitl I get it before I order anything. I think I’ll do it if it will work. It should look pretty sharp.
I won’t be weaving the writing, I’ll just be using a white marker on the blue blank for a personalized touch.
I should have it sometime next week…can’t wait!

Steve, I think I’m definately going to try and order a white acrylic reel seat insert. Do they come already reamed and turned down to the correct size, or do you have to do it all yourself? I suppose I can call them and ask too.
After taking all the components out and having a look at it, I think It’s going to turn out pretty sharp. I’ve got plenty of time to get it done by Christmas. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to wait that long to give it to him, lol.

TT the acrylic blanks come as a square piece of stock and have to be turned on a lathe to the right size to fit the seat hardware and the ID hole needs to be drilled in it. I’ll do that for ya no charge though if you just let me know what ID hole you need and what hardware you plan to use. And if your not sure of the hardware or Id hole then let me know what brand/size the blank is and I can find the Diameter it needs to be for the ID and make a suggestion as to the hardware as well.

Thank you soooooo much for your willingness to help. I’ve ordered a round piece of plain white. It will still need to be turned down and the ID hole drilled. I’ll send it to you as soon as it gets here, along with the factory insert so you can measure it directly and turn it to the right dimesions.
