Interesting! I wonder how that would behave in the water?I have times when fishing muddy water that I think vibration would help fish find the fly… but it’s difficult to create a fly that gives a good vibration for some reason. I looked around for ideas… haven’t got it figured out yet.

Dave,I’ve found a number of ways to do this. For floating patterns like balsa frogs or minnows, I use Fly Lips which you can find online. I also used these for larger baitfish patterns. I also use small Colorado blades for topwater and streamers, and larger shake blades which really add lots of vibration. Sor the smaller patterns, I use sequins. They come in many sizes and colors and you can easily cut them down smaller if you want. I like the scalloped-shaped sequins because they seem to add more vibration. Fell free to ask any questions you may have.https://gifyu.com/image/SOyAu

I use this many time and catch many crappie during the fall. It is a downsized striper fly.

Good suggestions, Jim! I should try some of your ideas!

It sure looks interesting, Rick! I’d like to hear what action do the blades give in this configuration? Do they clack together? Just provide flash? Make the retrieved fly move in an enticing way? Something else? All of the above?

That’s an usually pattern. I like it. I bet it does well on stillwater.

The blade flips back and forth giving some flash. IF not on the drop then and lift and drop retrieve.

You can slip a clevis and spinner blade on your leader in front of any fly. A tiny brass bead as a bearing between the two may allow it to spin more freely.

With the blade on the mono the fly also twits a little from side to side, looking a little more like a wounded minnow. Clevis would make in drop straight.

I’m curious about the weight of flies with blades and how they cast compared to similar flies without blades and if you have fished them on moving water as well as stillwater ??

I have only fished it in ponds. Have caught some fish on it while retrieving it.
